Zayn has hit another milestone this week as his debut single, “Pillowtalk,” goes to No. 1 on the Mediabase Top 40 chart – the chart that keeps track of radio airplay in the U.S. This week saw the song moving from No. 3 to the top spot and increasing to 17,343 spins between April 21 and 27, 2016. That’s over 1,000 more spins than the No. 2 song for the past week, Mike Posner’s “I Took A Pill in Ibiza.”
By going to No. 1 on the Mediabase Top 40 chart, Zayn accomplishes something his former band One Direction has never done. As Headline Planet reports, no One Direction single ever went higher than No. 4 on that chart.
This is just yet another accomplishment for Zayn since going solo. Not only has “Pillowtalk” topped the single charts in both the U.S. and the U.K., but his debut album, Mind of Mine, has also hit the top spot on both the U.S. and U.K. album charts as well. He became the first U.K. artist to debut at #1 on both the U.S. and U.K. charts since 2009 and made history as the first male U.K. solo artist to achieve a #1 with their first album on the Billboard 200 chart.
Zayn’s next single is “Like I Would,” which he has already performed on the “iHeartRadio Music Awards” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
