The former One Direction band mate has made his mark in the music world as a solo artist with newest single.
Zayn Malik, 23, left X Factor creation One Direction in March 2015, which prompted questions of a solo career which were to soon follow. Malik had been a part of the boy band for five years, causing trouble along the way when he and former band mate Louis Tomlinson were filmed smoking marijuana on the way to a 2014 show in Peru.
Malik has since seemingly separated himself from One Direction band mates, especially Tomlinson whom he got into a Twitter spat with in May 2015. Adding to the drama was his split with former fiancee, Perrie Edwards of the girl group Little Mix, in August 2015. A few months later Malik was romantically linked to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Yolanda Foster’s daughter, 20-year-old Gigi Hadid. The couple have recently been spotted getting cozy in Malik’s video for his new single “PILLOWTALK.”
The new music video, possibly inspired by ex Edwards, features Malik and Hadid kissing and giving the audience a trippy music video experience. The song is an altogether new sound and new image that fans of Malik have been presented with. Fans can expect Malik’s new sound to include slower ballads than his “What Makes You Beautiful” days, and if “PILLOWTALK” is any indication of the direction the singers career is going, it’s going to be a sultry ride.
Currently, the song is #2 on the U.S. iTunes charts and has over 22 million views on the music video (YouTube) since its release Thursday.
