We are going to jump out on a bit of a limb here and tell you right up front that you will love driving (and riding) in the new 2016 Volvo S60 T5 FWD Inscription mid-size luxury sedan. This new (and longer) S60 Inscription is sure to attract new customers with its fresh new Volvo styling, luxury amenities, premium performance, safety features and near limousine leg room for rear passengers.
Volvo certainly is on a roll already in 2016 with the brand new XC90 running off with awards right and left including the prestigious 2016 North American Truck of the Year (NACTOY) award in January and the coveted 2015 CUV of Texas honor late in 2015. Now, with the S60 arriving in dealerships, in our opinion, that roll is certain to continue for Volvo.
We have already spent some time driving the award winning 2016 XC90 and frankly, were blown away at both the drive (and ride) experience as we gave it a solid workout before voting for it at the 2015 Truck of Texas competition in October. When Volvo called and wanted to know if we would try a new 2016 S60 Inscription for a week, we jumped at the opportunity find out if all of the new excitement in the XC90 had found its way to the S60.
The answer is yes. With the new Inscription model, Volvo S60 Inscription delivers the excitement of the XC90 with all of its Scandinavian simplicity and elegance plus the performance – now packaged in a luxury mid-size sedan
The 2016 Volvo S60 T5 Inscription is new to the lineup for this year and features upgraded luxury amenities and features but also adds a full 3-inches to the vehicle, all as rear seat legroom (best in segment says Volvo), without sacrificing any of the nimble, yet solid, road handling capability of the S60.
There are two drive train configurations for the S60 T5 Inscription – T5 Drive-E FWD (MSRP $38,900) and T5 AWD (MSRP $40,400) with two trim levels available, Premier and Platinum. The power train for the T5 Drive-E FWD is a 2.0L in-line turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 240 horsepower with 258 lb.-ft. of torque. It is mated to a GearTronic 8-speed automatic Driver Adaptive automatic transmission.
The T5 AWD uses a turbocharged and direct injected 2.5L in-line 5-cylinder engine that produces 250 horsepower with 266 lb.-ft. of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Both engines are equipped with Start/Stop technology for added fuel economy.
Fuel economy for the 2.0L FWD is is rated at 25/37 mpg city/highway with a combined 29 mpg. The 2.5L AWD rating is 20/29 mpg city/highway and 23 mpg, combined.
