If you want to know what the rest of Ohio’s winter is going to be like and don’t want to go all the way to Pennsylvania to see Punxsutawney Phil, here’s your solution for behold, Ohio’s has its own weather-predicting groundhog in the form of Buckeye Chuck and you are invited to come to Marion, Ohio to see if Buckeye Chuck sees his shadow on Tuesday, February 2.
Buckeye Chuck was named the state of Ohio’s official groundhog in 1979. Since that time Buckeye Chuck’s weather prediction has been accurate more than 75% of the time. If a groundhog sees its shadow then winter will stay around for another 6 weeks but if the groundhog doesn’t see its shadow than an early Spring is expected. One of Buckeye Chuck’s favorite foods is Spam.
Buckeye Chuck’s prognostication will take place on Tuesday, February 2 outside the WMRN (iHeart Media) station between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. with full media coverage. Marion County and city officials will also be on-hand. Those in attendance will be treated to grilled Spam sandwiches, hot chocolate and hot coffee after Chuck’s winter weather prediction.
