With the WWE Royal Rumble 2016 results becoming official just a few days ago, Monday’s episode of Raw brought some clues as to the upcoming Fastlane pay-per-view matches, with at least one being announced. That match could also give way to early WrestleMania 32 predictions in terms of who will battle Triple H for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Based on a few other happenings recently, it’s possible some of the Mania card could be imagined, unless WWE has some surprises up its sleeve, such as superstars returning from injury earlier than anticipated.
According to PWTorch.com in their Jan. 26 report, the main event match for Fastlane will feature a Triple Threat match to determine the No. 1 contender for Triple H’s championship. The three competitors will be Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose with the winner going on to be a part of the WrestleMania main event match against the champion. The Game was on hand briefly at the start of Raw while Stephanie ultimately made the announcement after Reigns and Ambrose had completed a tag team victory over Rusev and Sheamus. Absent from the show was Brock Lesnar.
Early Fastlane predictions would be that WWE wants Roman back in the championship match at Mania. However, based on fan reaction to him at the Royal Rumble, it might be smarter if Brock Lesnar ends up victorious. The thing to watch for with that is it seems Lesnar is headed towards a possible feud with Bray Wyatt at Mania. The Wyatt Family may in fact find a way to rob Lesnar of the victory at Fastlane to further set that up. As of right now it seems less likely Ambrose is going to win that match at Fastlane, and some feel he may end up defending the IC title in a Triple Threat against AJ Styles and one other superstar at Mania.
Another big event on last night’s Raw was the buildup and arrival of a “major superstar” on the show. Making his return to Raw in his hometown of Miami, Florida was in fact Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He set the live crowd into a frenzy and participated in a segment which saw him confronted by New Day. Ultimately, The Usos came out to attack New Day and then performed several big moves with Rock getting “The People’s Elbow” on Xavier Woods. From there he proclaimed, “See you at WrestleMania,” which some fans are considering as news he will be involved in a six man tag with The Usos versus New Day. Others feel it’s just Rock’s reminder he’ll be a big star at the event without an in-ring role.
The WWE Fastlane 2016 pay-per-view arrive on Feb. 21 from Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. For those keeping track, John Cena and Seth Rollins are still inactive and neither seems to be ready for a Fastlane or WrestleMania return. Daniel Bryan has been cleared by just about everyone except the WWE medically so it could be another major surprise if he shows up at the WrestleMania event scheduled for April 3 in Dallas, Texas. The Undertaker remains the biggest question mark in terms of just who he might face, if anyone, at the big pay-per-view.
