Filler matches, a joke of a main event and more nonsense from The Authority made this week’s Monday Night RAW, the last episode of the WWE’s flagship program before Royal Rumble, a waste of time. Thanks to a weird lottery segment featuring Vince and Stephanie McMahon and a mediocre episode of The Highlight Reel, this week’s RAW did nothing to get you excited for the Rumble. Not even the awesome end that featured every big time player in this year’s Rumble and an exclamation mark from the Wyatt Family, was enough.
With no mentions of any of the WWE’s new signees, AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows, or any other surprises, there was no room for excitement or any added creativity. Although The Wyatt Family and Brock Lesnar got some real momentum going into the event, that alone wasn’t enough to pull the show out of the gutter.
WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns vs. Rusev w/Sheamus, United States Champion Alberto Del Rio and Wade Barrett, Chris Jericho Special Guest Referee: Thanks to help from the League of Nations, Rusev got the early advantage on the outside, but Reigns got back in the match with strikes and nearly won with the Sit-Out Powerbomb from the top. However, more interference from the LON allowed Rusev another opportunity to get back in the match as Sheamus took out Reigns on the outside. Jericho wasted no time kicking all three members of the LON out of the match, forcing Rusev and Reigns to finish the fight the right way. Reigns then landed a Superman Punch and the Spear on Rusev to get the win.
Brie Bella w/Alicia Fox vs. Natalya Neidhart w/Paige: Neidhart got the quick win with the Sharpshooter.
Ryback and The Dudley Boys: Bubba Ray and Devon vs. The Wyatt Family: Luke Harper and Erick Rowan and Bray Wyatt w/Braun Strowman: Ryback and the Dudleys had their moments but interference from Strowman allowed Harper to hit the Yakuza Kick and Discus Lariat on Bubba Ray for the win.
The Big Show vs. Heath Slater w/Bo Dallas, Curtis Axel and Adam Rose: Show got the quick win with the Knockout Punch and then took out the rest of the Outcasts with WMDs as well.
Becky Lynch vs. Tamina w/Naomi: Snuka got out-slugged and Lynch got the win with a modified version of the Disarmer.
Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose and Kalisto vs. United States Champion Alberto Del Rio and Sheamus w/ Wade Barrett: Lots of back and forth as all four competitors traded signature maneuvers. Kalisto surprised as he hit the Selina Del Sole on Sheamus, but the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion was able to get the win with the Brogue Kick after Kevin Owens, who was ringside, allowed Del Rio to hit a Kick on Ambrose and take him out of the match.
Jey Uso w/Jimmy Uso vs. WWE Tag Team Champion Big E. Langston w/Xavier Woods and WWE Tag Team Champion Kofi Kingston: Langston got the win with the Big Ending after a distraction from Woods. A shame because Uso was in control throughout and after a Super Kick, looked ready to win.
Neville, R-Truth, Mark Henry and Titus O’Neil vs. The Ascension Viktor and Konnor, Tyler Breeze and Stardust: Neville got the win with the Red Arrow on Breeze in a lackluster and uneventful eight-man tag.
