The fact that AJ Styles is in the main event for Payback and the two teams in the final of the Tag Team tournament are from NXT proves that at least creatively, RAW is going into some fun new territory. Add in a fun main event between Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose as well as more Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson and there was no reason to change the channel.
Chris Jericho vs. Sami Zayn: This was a blast to watch as Zayn hit the Blue Thunder, his Signature DDT on the outside and a ton of strikes, but Jericho got the win with the Code Breaker after an Eye Rake in the corner that, of course, the referee didn’t see.
Tag Team Tournament: Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady vs. The Dudley Boys: Bubba Ray and Devon: Amore was, as usual, the Buddy Roberts, taking a huge amount of punishment before Cass got the hot tag. After Cassidy hit Bubba Ray with the Big Boot, Amore got the win with The Rocket Launcher.
Baron Corbin vs. Fandango: With Dolph Ziggler ringside, Corbin got the squash win over Fandango with the End of Days. After the match, Corbin hit Ziggler with the maneuver on the outside as well.
WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day: Kofi Kingston, Big E. Langston, Xavier Woods and Antonio Cesaro vs. The League of Nations: Sheamus, Rusev, Alberto Del Rio and Intercontinental Champion The Miz w/Maryse: This match was a lengthy one and if anything put Cesaro over as he decimated Sheamus with the Neutralizer for the win.
Paige, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks and Natalya vs. Tamina Snuka, Naomi, Summer Rae and WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair w/Ric Flair: Neidhart got the win with the Sharpshooter on Flair, the second time in two weeks she’s gotten the WWE Women’s Champion to tap out.
Tag Team Tournament: The Vaudevillians: Simon Gotch and Aiden English vs. Jimmy and Jey Uso: The Usos fought hard, but the Whirling Dervish gave Gotch and English the win.
Apollo Crews vs. Health Slater w/Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel: A blah match that saw Crews win with the Sit-Out Powerbomb variation.
Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens: A great match with plenty of spots, including an Owens Frog Splash on Ambrose who was on the outside. After plenty of near-falls, Owens missed a Frog Splash and a Cannonball, allowing Ambrose to hit the Dirty Deeds for the win. After the match, Chris Jericho nailed Ambrose with the Code Breaker to end the show.
