Many WWE Fastlane 2016 results have been decided at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio with several of the championship matches yielding winners. Kalisto and Alberto Del Rio kicked things off in a “Best 2 of 3 Falls match” during a pre-show to contest the United States Championship. On the main show, Kevin Owens put his Intercontinental title on the line against challenger Dolph Ziggler. Also, Brie Bella took on Charlotte for the Divas Championship with the legendary Ric Flair at ringside. Other matches also went down as Fastlane results included several tag team matches as well featuring the superstars and divas.
According to Wrestling Inc. in their Feb. 21 report, the 2 of 3 Falls Match for the United States Championship was part of the special Fastlane Kickoff Pre-show on the WWE Network. In the first fall of this match, Alberto Del Rio earned himself a disqualification after using a steel chair to hit Kalisto near the timekeepers area. During a break from the pay-per-view, Del Rio tossed Kalisto around on the outside for further punishment. Back in the ring, Del Rio used the fact that Kalisto was hurting from the chair shot to take the second fall via pinfall after a quick stomp move in the corner. The action continued for a while longer with Del Rio getting Kalisto hung upside down in the corner late for a possible finisher. Kalisto turned the tables by performing a modified Salida del Sol to throw Del Rio face first into the turnbuckles, and then took the winning pinfall to take the match 2-1 falls.
During the main show, fans watching WWE Network saw a great opening match in which divas Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch ultimately prevailed over Team BAD. The finale saw Sasha managed to turn a DDT into her Bank Statement finisher on Tamina, while Becky also put her Disarm-her finisher on Naomi. Following that was the Intercontinental Championship match with Dolph Ziggler getting an early shoulder or neck injury after Owens tossed him hard to the corner. The two would trade near fall after near fall, but Owens eventually avoided Dolph’s Superkick attempt with the ref almost taking it instead. With Dolph making sure the ref wasn’t hurt, Owens quickly grabbed him to hit a Popup Powerbomb for the win.
In another tag match, the team known as the “Titans of the WWE” featuring Ryback, Kane and Big Show came into their six-man tag match as underdogs against The Wyatt Family. Bray Wyatt watched from ringside as his team of Luke Harper, Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman seemed in control. Things got chaotic late though, as everyone got involved with Big Show shoving Strowman over the top rope and then pressing Harper before throwing him out of the ring onto the Wyatts. In the end, Ryback hit his Shellshocked finisher on Harper for the pin. Also victorious was Divas champion Charlotte who had her dad Ric Flair at ringside to distract Brie Bella a bit late. Brie had several submission moves locked on Charlotte but Michael Cole said that it seemed her leg gave out. That allowed Charlotte to put on the Figure Eight to make Brie tap out.
Still to come on the pay-per-view would be a “rubber match” between Chris Jericho and AJ Styles, as well as the No. 1 contender Triple Threat match featuring Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar with the winner going to WrestleMania 32 to take on Triple H for the WWE Championship. The WWE Fastlane pay-per-view was part of the 2016 road to WrestleMania and the second pay-per-view under the Fastlane name to be held by the WWE.
