Celebrity publicist and event host Marie Driven will honor 11 exceptional females in media at a dynamic power brunch on March 26 at Suede Restaurant and Lounge (5610 Clarendon Rd., Brooklyn). PlaybookMG’s Women’s Trailblazer Appreciation Brunch will recognize women who are behind-the-scenes at some of the most influential brands in the entertainment industry, and coincides with the celebration of Women’s History Month. “I wanted to take these women, and bring them to the forefront,” Marie Driven told byteclay.com. “They do so much that a lot of people don’t know about.” Hosted by rapper-turned-reality star Peter Gunz, the chic event will feature music by DJ FugiSlim and DJ Showoff.
One of the women to be honored at the brunch is Essence Magazine Digital Fashion and Beauty Editor Julee Wilson. This industry vet has interviewed everyone from The Muppets’ Miss Piggy to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. More importantly, she spreads positivity and redefines the image of a NYC fashion editor. HelloBeautiful Entertainment Editor Shamika Sanders is another force to be reckoned with. Her credits include urban mags GIANT and KING, and Sanders currently provides balanced coverage of the latest entertainment news, celebrity buzz, and social issues for the Interactive One property. Mara The Hip-Hop Socialite, meanwhile, is an international columnist and former attorney who has interviewed scores of celebrities on her popular video series, “The Scoop.” Mara keeps her finger on the pulse of all things entertainment, and can be found at some of the hottest events in the city.
Simone “Boss Lady” Amelia recently joined The Source Magazine’s staff as Content Director, and is already making her mark. The iconic brand issued a timely “Reel Recognize Real” cover story last month that focused on the backlash against the lack of diversity at the Oscars, and recognized those that the Academy overlooked. Amelia also founded the popular hip-hop magazine Urban Hitz in her native Australia, and is a former Sirius XM host. Also over at Sirius is “Sway in the Morning” Talent Manager and Show Producer Kelly Jackson. The powerhouse duo co-founded the management firm OverDeliver Entertainment in 2014, and Jackson is also the owner of the boutique publicity firm Golden Shepherd Alliance. On the television side of the entertainment industry, Dollie Bishop is a show creator and producer who has worked closely with Nick Cannon for years. Bishop is the creator of the Oxygen reality show “Like a Boss,” and a producer on MTV’s “Wild ‘N Out.”
Effervescent New York Post reporter Tashara Jones covers everything from celebrity gossip to feel good stories to entertainment news for the daily newspaper. She has interviewed everyone from Chris Noth to New York Giants star Victor Cruz. Another outlet known for breaking news is The Shade Room, and the booming site is led by editor and social media manager Chinwe U. If you want to know who did what and where, then she’s the one to ask. Over at leading music and lifestyle mag The FADER, Naomi Zeichner runs the show. The editor-in-chief returned to the outlet in 2014 after working as the music editor at Buzzfeed. Then there is entrepreneur and proud supermom JeVonne Cortez Bell. In addition to being the executive producer of The Ghettonerd Company, Bell is the founder and owner of BNU Magazine. Last, but certainly not least, is VH1 entertainment reporter Taylor Ferber. The jetsetting journo works red carpets and gets all the celeb dish from NYC to L.A.
