Update 2/27/16: Adopted!!!
A 15-year-old dog named “Maurice,” is calling a kennel run at the North Fork Shelter in Long Island, New York, “home,” because he has no family who wants him. On Sunday, the Facebook page, Desperate Dogs of Long Island, shared Maurice’s sad story with its followers, “It was her brother’s dog- and when she found out he was missing, she went to the shelter to find out if he was there. She spent some time with him, patted him on the head, and promised she would be back to find him a home….she never returned.”
Maurice no longer has the familiar sounds, sights and smells that were part of his life – today he has only strangers and an unfamiliar bed. Maurice’s fate has been left to chance and he is utterly alone – betrayed in the saddest way in the twilight of his life.
Volunteers have describe Maurice as loving to everyone- he’s never met a human he didn’t like, and he appears to do well with other dogs as well (though a house without cats has been requested).
No one returned to the shelter to take Maurice home – please help him find a new family by taking a moment to share his adoption information. Facebook thread here. North Fork Shelter, Southold Long Island, NY – CONTACT 631-765-1811, EXTENSION 1
*Please note- if you own other dogs, this shelter requires a meet and greet with your dog.
