Prince William and Kate’s Kensington Palace apartment was the backdrop for their recent pictures with President Obama and the First Lady when they hosted the Obama’s for dinner. What do you see in the background at Kate and Will’s place? A whole bunch of table lamps is one thing you can’t help but spot as in one shot there are six on just one side of the room, which looks like their parlor.
It was odd to see such a big family-like room without a TV in sight, but the royal couple have quite the book collection going, which is seen in a few shots. Another cute and relaxed look was a stuffed animal, a dog. This was left on the ottoman, which sits where a coffee table might sit in the center of a furniture grouping. It shows how family oriented this couple is, as they have no qualms about entertaining with their child’s toy smack in the center of their conversation circle.
Good Housekeeping on April 23 points out 11 things about the room where Kate and William entertain Barack and Michelle and another thing they zero in on is the window seats overlooking Kensington Palace gardens. You don’t need anyone to point out the number of throw pillows around the room, which are in all sizes, patterns and colors. The room offers a cozy country cottage setting and the decor, while elegant, is far from the gold gilding of yesteryear’s royal standards. It is magnificent and inviting without one stuffy-looking accessory!
It looks like Kate and William enjoy their family’s pictures, suggests Cosmopolitan, as they are scattered on table tops all over the room. William, who has said in the past that he likes lemon in his water, seems to be drinking just that if you look at the accent table beside him.
Candles are also in abundance in the room as they are placed on the many table tops. It looks as if Kate an William use a table top as a bar, as all the liquor and drink mixers are on a tray on a table in the corner of the room. Prince George in his bathrobe looks quite at home as he thanks Michelle for the rocking horse the Obama’s sent when he was born. It is also strategically placed in the room! This was apparently in a picture before the young prince retired for the evening because the rest of the photos are all of the adults.
The Obama dinner gave fans of the Royals a rare look into this one room of the 22-room apartment that the royal family of four call home when in London. Flowers placed around the room, along with a few plants, bring the outside in and the royal couple’s curtains are at just the right length. It is great to see windows that offer so much view into the outside world not covered up in heavy velvet drapes! Again an image of yesteryear’s royal decor.
