The 58th Grammy Awards are set to air live on CBS tonight at 8 ET. The three-and-a-half-hour broadcast is one that won’t disappoint. There will no shortage of awe inspiring performance, jaw-dropping fashion, and probably some unplanned events that we won’t be expecting. It’s going to be an award show that will be making headlines tomorrow. No matter what happens tonight, it ultimately comes down to the artists who are nominated, and who will take home a Gramophone.
No matter your taste in music, there is an artist, producer or songwriter that is nominated for a musical piece that you’re obsessed with. With that being said, everyone has a different opinion on who should take home an award tonight. It’s a matter of who will take home the gold, and who will be snubbed.
We’ve come up with our own list of who we think should take home awards in the top 4 categories of the night. Check them out below:
RECORD OF THE YEAR:
Nominees for Record of the Year include, “Blank Space,” Taylor Swift; “Really Love,” DeAngelo and the Vanguard; “Uptown Funk,” Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars; “Thinking Out Loud,” Ed Sheeran and “Can’t Feel My Face,” The Weeknd.
Who will win: “Uptown Funk,” Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars OR “Blank Space,” Taylor Swift
Who Should Win: “Blank Space,” Taylor Swift
This is a tough category this year. There are three potentials of who could take home this award and that’s Swift, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, and The Weeknd. All three have a chance at taking home the gold in this category but “Uptown Funk,’ and “Blank Space” had greater performances this year. Both had great commercial success. It’s a close race but ultimately, we think Swift should win the award.
ALBUM OF THE YEAR:
Nominees for Album of the Year include, Sound & Color, Alabama Shakes; 1989, Taylor Swift; To Pimp a Butterfly, Kendrick Lamar; Traveller, Chris Stapleton and Beauty Behind the Madness, The Weeknd.
Who Will Win: To Pimp a Butterfly, Kendrick Lamar OR 1989, Taylor Swift
Who Should Win: 1989, Taylor Swift
Kendrick Lamar released a killer album, and it would be great to see a hip hop album win in this category but it doesn’t seem to hold a candle to 1989. Swift dominated the music world in 2015 by not tweaking her sound, but hopping genres. She redefined her image, and her career has been on a pivotal evolution since her breakout year in 2006 as a country artist. She’s not afraid to take bold risks, and that is exactly what 1989 was. The album has sold millions of copies since the release in 2014, and voters will have a hard time looking past its massive commercial success. If this doesn’t take album of the year, we will be utterly confused.
SONG OF THE YEAR:
Nominees for Song of the Year include, “Alright,” Kendrick Lamar; “Blank Space,” Taylor Swift; “Girl Crush,” Little Big Town; “See You Again,” Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth and “Thinking Out Loud,” Ed Sheeran
Who will win: “Thinking Out Loud, “ Ed Sheeran
Who Should Win: “Girl Crush,” Little Big Town
“Girl Crush’ was a song of genius and deserves to take home an award, but we aren’t sure if it can compete with Ed Sheeran. The song comes from Sheeran’s 2014 album X, which was nominated for album of the year in 2015. “Thinking Out Loud” is nominated for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance and the Grammy’s this year. In 2014, X solidified Sheeran as Spotif’s most-streamed artist. He’s got a large following, and the amount of commercial success that the song has received cannot be ignored.
BEST NEW ARTIST:
Nominees for Best New Artist include, Courtney Barnett, James Bay, Sam Hunt, Tori Kelly and Meghan Trainor.
Who Will Win: Sam Hunt
Who Should win: Tori Kelly
Kelly is an artist to watch this year. She rose to fame in a matter of minutes, and did you know that auditioned for American Idol? The singer has an unmatched set of vocals, and talent that is unlike anything we have heard before. It’s a tough competition for Kelly, especially when it comes to an artist like Sam Hunt, who is country music’s heartthrob, and has great potential to move beyond country music and reach bigger and better things. Sam Hunt will probably take the category but maybe there will be a miracle and Kelly’s name will be called instead. We’ll have to see tonight.
What are your predictions? Who will take home an award tonight? Watch the Grammy’s live on CBS at 8 ET to find out.
