Will Smith recently opened up on some touchy subjects in a new interview with A.Dot on BBC’s online radio station 1Xtra according to a Monday, February 8 report from UP. During the radio interview, Will addressed his son Jaden and his choice to dress in women’s clothing. He also shared his thoughts on his son’s fearlessness. Smith also reveals that he and Jada give their children the freedom to express themselves.
“There’s a really powerful internal quality as an artist that as parents we encourage. You gotta get out on the edge. You have to try things. You have to be comfortable doing things that people don’t agree with and you have to be comfortable doing thins you can fail. Jaden is 100% fearless. He will do anything. As a parent it’s scary, it’s really terrifying, but he is completely willing to live and die by his own artistic decisions and he doesn’t concern himself with what people think.”
The next touchy subject, Aunt Viv (Janet Hubert) Will’s TV aunt on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” By now all Will Smith fans are well aware that Aunt Viv did some major dissing on Will and his wife Jada on Facebook over the Oscars. In case you’ve forgotten Hubert’s recent fiery rant, here’s a bit directed at Jada: “Miss Thing, does your man not have a mouth of his own with which to speak?”
“The second thing, girlfriend, there’s a lot of s–t going on in the world that you all don’t seem to recognize. People are dying. Our boys are being shot left and right. People are starving. People are trying to pay bills. And you’re talking about some [expletive] actors and Oscars. It just ain’t that deep.”
A.Dot took a moment to ask Will Smith what he thought of Hubert versus the second Aunt Viv, Daphne Maxwell Reid. He laughed, taking the high road despite the Aunt Viv controversy and said “Both of the Aunt Viv were really, really fantastic” and even called Hubert “brilliant.”
“I think as an artist there’s so many things that she does,” Smith said, ramping up for some serious niceties. “She sings, she dances, she’s like a really powerful artist. I loved what she brought to the Fresh Prince.”
Smith admitted that he and wife Jada are still boycotting the Oscar’s and appeared to not want to discuss the subject much further. On a lighter note Will did admit that he recently ran into pal and “Bad Boys” co-star Martin Lawerence and that fans could definitely look forward to a “Bad Boys 3” film in the future. What are your thoughts on how Will Smith responded to the Aunt Viv drama, Jaden’s wardrobe choices and the news of a new Bad Boys film?
