Thursday’s Wichita State vs. Arizona live stream online and TV game arrives from Providence, Rhode Island as the 2016 NCAA Tournament’s South region wraps up opening round action. It will feature a Shockers team that need to win a First Four game in Dayton, Ohio over Vanderbilt to earn a first round matchup with No. 6 seed Arizona. The Wildcats finished at third place in a challenging Pac-12 this past season and went 25-8 overall, matching the record of their opponents tonight. In fact, this one has been pegged as the most likely upset of the first round by plenty of analysts and bracket experts. Will it happen the way they see it though? The 2016 NCAA tournament live stream and TV coverage arrives through TNT and March Madness Live.
According to a USA Today report from March 16, these two teams feature several players with plenty of tournament experience including guard Gabe York and center Kaleb Tarczewski of Arizona, who have combined to play in 20 NCAA tournament games. Point guard Fred VanVleet and shooting guard Ron Baker of Wichita State have played in 11 tournament games over their four seasons with the Shockers. The team nearly was going to be out of tournament contention but managed to earn a play-in game this past Tuesday and grabbed a win 70-50 over Vanderbilt. In that game it was VanVleet and Baker leading the way for a second half surge that ultimately gave their team the victory. However, they’ve had little time to rest or prepare adequately for this Arizona team.
Reportedly, the Shockers arrived to Providence as of 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning. They’ll now take on a Wildcats team seeded No. 6 that is ranked No. 19 in the nation in scoring as they put up 81.2 points per game. However, Wichita State sports the nation’s top overall defense, allowing opponents just 59.3 points per game. Whether they’ll have enough gas in the tanks to go two halves with a tough Pac-12 team like Zona remains to be seen. The Cats are led by senior Ryan Anderson who puts up 15.5 points per game and snatches about 10 rebounds a game. They’re also coming into this matchup having had time to process their loss by six points in the Pac-12 Tournament to eventual-No. 1 NCAA seed Oregon. That could have this Arizona team fired up and ready to do some damage with a deep run into their side of the bracket.
Odds makers have this is a very close matchup when it comes to the spread, as Arizona was just a one-point favorite as of a few hours before game time. The Shockers come into the game with a 21-11 record against the spread this past season while the Wildcats were 16-16-1 ATS over the course of their season. The over/under points total at several books was 136 for the complete game. On the future odds list, Arizona is listed as a 45 to 1 favorite to win the National Championship, tying them with the Connecticut Huskies on the list. They have 10 to 1 odds to win the South region while Wichita State has odds of 12 to 1 to win that part of the bracket.
