Bleeding Cool published a report today on the inclusion of an exclusive “Harley Quinn” #1 comic book from DC Comics in the just released “Vs” Loot Crate. Since Loot Crate items are a mystery, the comic caught Harley Quinn fans off guard and they are now clamoring for the issue. As Bleeding Cool reports, copies of the issue are fetching more than the cost of the Loot Crate itself. However, if fans show a bit of patience they need not pay such a premium for what is, in reality, a very common issue.
What sets this exclusive comic apart from other blind box exclusives is that it is not just a new variant cover on a comic that is already readily available in comic shops. The story content of the comic is also all-new and exclusive only to this issue. The new story is co-written by “Harley Quinn” co-writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner with art by Conner, “Harley Quinn” artist Chad Hardin, Paul Mounts and John J. Hill. Now that fans are aware of the issue they are hastily turning to re-sellers such as those on eBay to complete their collections.
However, this shows a lack of patience and understanding of the Loot Crate service. Firstly, every few months, Loot Crate holds a “Past Crates” sale which sells the remaining crates from the past few months. So, in a few months time, one can buy the full “Vs” Loot Crate for about the regular price of US$20 (shipping within the U.S., different rates may apply in other countries). Rather than paying nearly $30 for just the comic, one would also get a reversible Daredevil/Punisher knit hat, “Superman v Batman” Mighty wallet, a “Star Trek” t-shirt, an “Alien Vs Predator” vinyl figure and more for significantly less.
If one cannot wait a few months for this issue, then, at least, wait a few days as more Loot Crate subscribers receive their boxes. Loot Crate’s five hundred thousand or so subscribers are just beginning to receive their “Vs” crates. Therefore, the supply on eBay and other locations is about to increase significantly, driving prices down. According to the February 2016 sales charts, “Harley Quinn” #25 sold 51,495 copies in comic shops. That means there are ten times as many copies of the Loot Crate exclusive “Harley Quinn” #1, as there are the latest issues of the regular comic series. The supply is out there and it will grossly outweigh the demand. One need only wait for it.
Loot Crate offering all new content in the exclusive comic books it offers is a significant milestone for the company and creates great pontetial for the comics industry to reach new readers. To become a Loot Crate subscriber, sign up now on their website.
