Why I shopped at Hamrick’s on Saturday may surprise you. I rarely shop for new clothing for myself, generally making do with what I have or picking items off the one dollar racks at Goodwill. On Saturday, I waged war against the stretched out, oversized, baggy long sleeve tees that I wear nearly every day. I had only one left that fit well, but it was about twelve years old and finally falling apart at the seams. I went to Hamrick’s with the sole purpose of finding a few nice long sleeve tees. I quickly found four SONOMA life + style V-neck tees in pink, rose, lavender and turquoise, all small and all on sale for only $4. My mission was accomplished. Then I began to think (a dangerous thing for me to do), and stayed at Hamrick’s to do some Christmas shopping.
I wondered how Hamrick’s had SONOMA life + style tees, a Kohl’s house brand, and how they could sell them for only $4. Hamrick’s tag showed that they had been reduced from $12.99. A quick look at Kohl’s turned up the exact same style, brand and colors, regularly priced at $18.99; on sale for $7.99. Even second hand tees at Goodwill were $4.25. It seemed I was getting a very good deal indeed.
I began looking at other items and choosing a few for Christmas gifts. Men’s Izod long-sleeved woven shirts at Hamrick’s were reduced from $19.99 to $8. The selection was good, and I chose two nice plaids for my husband to wear to work. Checking at Belk, the same brand, style and colors were regularly priced at $55, on sale for $32.99.
Then I picked up a festive red Nine West shoulder bag for my daughter, reduced to only $25. Sure to make a great gift, I plan to slip it under the tree on Christmas Eve with a gift card tucked inside. A quick check of other department stores showed that Belk had the same Nine West zip totes reduced from $89 to $62.30.
The checkout line was long, almost an endurance contest. As I waited, I thought about those who prefer to shop online and wondered how amazon.com would compare with Hamrick’s. A Jane Ashley quilted vest at Hamrick’s was reduced from $24.98 to only $8. On amazon.com, the best I could find was the same Jane Ashley quilted vest reduced from $40 to $22.98.
The next time you wonder if Hamrick’s sales are really as good as they look, know that they probably are. The parking lot may be full, the aisles narrow and the checkout lines long. But, for the thrifty shopper, it’s all worth it when you save more than you ever thought possible. How Hamrick’s beats the prices of other stored, we may never know, but they do!
As always, maximize your style and minimize your spending.
