Not just because I am a creationist that I believe the Earth was intelligently designed, but because I believe by faith that God created it in Genesis 1:1. The Earth has too many unique things about it to believe it all happened by random chance over many billions of years of time. The Earth had to have a designer (Isaiah 45:18) and not just random chance to be able to support biological life. There was a reason God only took six days to complete His creation in which the Earth was part of. The Earth stands out among the other planets in our solar system. No other planet or even our moon or other moons in our solar system can sustain human life or any other animal or plant life.
Our sun, even though it supplies light and heat is deadly to biological life. There are hazards in living as close to a star as we do. After all, the sun is a mighty nuclear engine, giving off more energy each second than mankind has produced since creation. It actually converts eight million tons of its matter into pure energy every second. Our sun gives off intense radiation brought to us via the invisible solar wind, which mainly consists of protons and electrons. These dangerous high speed particles approach the Earth, and could be hazardous to us. However, they are deflected as they pass through the Earth’s magnetic field. These solar wind particles eventually descend to the earth in the far north or south regions, near the magnetic poles. What beautiful aurora’s are created in the northern and southern poles called the Northern and Southern Lights. Our sun produces an abundance of ultraviolet radiation. This energetic form of light can cause melanomas, eye cataracts and also damage vegetation. The Earth’s ozone layer comprised of ozone gas in the Earth’s stratosphere about 12 to 18 miles up, safely absorbs this ultraviolet radiation before it can cause major problems on the earth. Our Earth’s atmosphere also absorbs deadly X-rays emitted by our sun and also from outer space. These X-rays are filtered away by the Earth’s atmosphere before this radiation can reach the ground. The Earth with its magnetic field, ozone layer, and atmosphere was designed to protect life on the earth.
In contrast to the extremes of space, planet Earth appears to be uniquely designed for our well being. Scientists have discovered that the most fundamental characteristics of our Earth and cosmos are so finely tuned that if just one of them were even slightly different, life as we know could not exist. This is called the “Anthropic Principle” and it agrees with the Bible which states that God formed the Earth to be inhabited. “For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD: and there is none else.” (Isaiah 45:18)
Of very great importance, the Earth has a large supply of essential water. Seas cover 74 percent of the globe’s surface; the oceans average two miles deep. There are70 billion gallons of water equivalent to a small lake, for every single person on Earth. Our optimum distance of 93 million miles from the sun allows this water to exist in three forms, vapor, to help warm the Earth, liquid and ice to supply the hydrologic cycle. Earth’s annual temperature of 53 degrees fahrenheit is closely maintained by the great reservoir of heat in the oceans. Truly the Earth was intelligently designed from the very beginning by God. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
