Saturday is a huge day for Vandy’s postseason hopes. Kentucky comes to town in a huge match up, one Vandy needs to win to bolster their Tourney hopes. A win today perhaps gets Vandy on the right side of the bubble permanently. Kentucky game aside, who do Dore fans need to pull for to help Vandy’s cause?
The first thing in play is a potential SEC regular season title. Vandy can theoretically still tie for the league title. Vandy must win out but there are other factors that are in play with other SEC games today.
South Carolina at Mississippi St. – The base case scenario is for South Carolina to lose twice and finish 11-7. The road test against an improving State team provides a chance for one of those two losses. Carolina finishes with UGA at home and at Arkansas.
Texas A&M at Mizzou – Won’t happen, so not going to write much. A&M is only a game ahead of VU, so the head to head match up next week is much bigger. Vandy would hold the tiebreaker with a win due to a season sweep.
In terms of getting a higher seed, Vandy should pull for Florida to beat LSU since they hold the tiebreaker with Florida. Also, Ole Miss is surging and hold the tiebreaker with Vandy, So a Georgia win over the Rebels would be beneficial as well.
In terms of NCAA bubble talk there are several match ups today that will have bearing on the bubble. George Washington plays VCU. A Colonials win helps because VCU’s case isn’t as strong. Syracuse also plays at NC State, a State win would damage the Orange’s resume. Vandy should also pull for ECU over Cincy, UCF over Temple, UMASS over the Bonnies, Depaul over Providence and Auburn over Alabama.
