The White Sierra Trabagon jacket is waterproof, lightweight and packs flat for travel. Equipped with a hood and roomy pockets, it folds into one of the pockets to make a small bundle that fits easily into a purse or pack.
The Trabagon is made from ripstop polyester and has a waterproof, breathable coating. All seams are sealed for complete protection. A Teflon coating protects the fabric and repels water. The jacket zips up the front with a snap closure at the bottom and a generous storm flap to keep water and wind out. Four Velcro tabs close the storm flap. A flap in the back yoke circulates air and has mesh fabric inside to aid in ventilation. Front pockets zip closed for secure storage while larger mesh pockets inside can hold gloves or a hat. Cuffs are adjustable with Velcro closures and a draw-cord cinches the jacket around the bottom. The hood also has an adjustable draw-cord. The hood has a visor that extends over the face to provide additional protection from rain.
The author tested a medium women’s size that fell to the top of the thighs. The cut was roomy enough to wear a light mid-layer underneath if desired and the fit was true to size. The jacket was so light that it didn’t feel like having anything on. The Hibiscus color was fun for travel, brightening up a monochromatic wardrobe considerably. It was an attractive color though it’s a little more orange than the shown on the White Sierra website.
While traveling for a month in Hawaii and Australia the jacket proved very versatile. Folded in half in a suitcase it took up hardly any room at all. Stuffed into a daypack during the off and on drizzle of passing storm fronts its small size and extremely light weight meant that it was rarely forgotten. There were no leaks. In windy conditions it provided a good windbreak over a fleece mid-layer. The secure pockets were appreciated for storage of money and cell phone while a camera and soft hat could be stored in the inside pockets. The hood was utilized in several downpours. The Trabagon was pressed into service while hiking on trails bordering the ocean in Tasmania, sightseeing in Sydney and on a river cruise in Launceston.
