On Saturday, April 23, the Children’s Museum of Houston will host their Earth Day Bash. Special events include a presentation of skulls and skins by the Texas Wildlife Association, an interactive demo about how to protect the planet by the Environmental Protection Agency, a pupper show by the Houston Puppetry Guild, and free seedling (while supplies last) from Trees for Houston. Other activities include a demonstration by Abel Design Group and Booker T. Washington High School about how to build a ‘CanSculpture’ and a chance to use recycled newspaper to make a piece of paper at the EcoStation and flower crowns at the Junktion.
The Children’s Museum is located at 500 Binz in Houston. They are open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Admission is $12 for children ages one and up and adults, and parking starts at $7 for an hour.
Another awesome place to check out is the Houston Zoo’s Party for the Planet presented by CenterPoint Energy. There will be crafts, music, and activities including zoo tours, the Mother Earth Maze, a scavenger hunt, a DJ at the Reflection Pool, a five foot tall coloring mural, Meet the Keeper Talks presented by Phillips 66, and the race to recycle game.
The zoo is located at 6200 Hermann Park Drive in Houston. The party will take place on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The event is free for zoo members, with non-member paying $13 for children ages two through 13, $17 for adults ages 12 to 64, and $10.50 for seniors ages 65 and up. Free parking is available near the zoo, although it does fill up fast.
Moody Gardens will present their ‘One Earth, One Choice’ activities and presentations in honor of Earth Day. They will offer yoga classes in the mornings, keeper talks, and gardening and cooking presentations. There will also be arts and craft tables for children. In addition, Moody Gardens will be showing ‘National Parks Adventure 3D’ narrated by Robert Redford. There will be a free plant giveaway of Butterfly Weed, which attracts butterflies to gardens, as long as supplies last.
Moody Gardens is located at 1 Hope Boulevard in Galveston. The events and activities begin on Friday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m. and run through normal hours on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24. Yoga will be on Saturday, April 23 at 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., and 9:00 a.m. Cooking with Herbs will be at 10:00 a.m. Regular hours are 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. The special Rainforest and Aquarium Combination Ticket with discounted admission to these two attractions will be $29.95 from April 22 through April 24.
