It is not a secret, but it is a little-known fact that Uber service is now available to Livingston residents. A car will pick you up at your home or wherever you happen to be. A typical fee for being driven to Merced is $15-$21, one way. The levels of service vary. The lowest-cost service is known as “UberX.” Up to four passengers may be delivered to a location. A minivan or SUV with a maximum of six passengers is called “UberXL.” People with disabilities can use “Uber Assist,” which includes help getting into the vehicle, and room to transport wheelchairs and other devices. A wheelchair-accessible vehicle is referred to as an “Uber WAV.” Finally, there is “Uber Espanol,” which guarantees a Spanish-speaking driver. There is an app for Uber service you can use on your cell phone when you are away from home. You may also use a home computer to hail a car.
If you have a longer journey in mind, you may arrange for Uber to take you to the Merced Regional Airport. Once your plane takes off, you are only an hour and 15 minutes away from Los Angeles. For more flight information, refer to the airport website.
Uber will also take you to the Amtrak station in Merced. There are more than 500 Amtrak stations and depots in the United States. If Amtrak doesn’t get you to a specific city you want to visit, there are ways of getting from Amtrak stations to the community you want to get to. Uber can also take you to Greyhound in Merced. Uber service is also available within Livingston’s city limits. As an experiment, this writer looked up the fee for an Uber ride from his home to City Hall, and the estimate was $5 or $6. Use of Uber within the city limits will not necessarily be widespread, but it’s there if, for some reason, you need or want it.
