The specific duties and responsibilities will vary from company to company. In most companies, they will be responsible for managing and improving the company’s rank in the search engines for a variety of keywords. In some companies, the SEO Specialist will also be responsible for social media marketing, managing a company’s Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram accounts.

Starting salaries range from $40,000 to $80,000 a year, depending on location. An SEO expert in Boston, for example, will earn an average of $77,000 a year, while the same job in Miami would only pay $58,000, according to Indeed.com.

Jobs have tripled since 2011, are expected to keep growing. According to Rand Fishkin, the CEO of SEOmoz, “The investment in SEO is going to increase at a dramatic pace over the next five years – marketers see more value in SEO than virtually any other tactic – online or off.”
