After weary 2015 collected its memories and shuffled out the door, winemakers and winegrape growers raise their glasses and share wishes and resolutions for the New Year.
Janet Myers, winemaker, Franciscan Estates: “A wish for 2016 is for a rain-filled winter and a prosperous harvest. My resolutions are to drink more white Burgundy and do more volunteering at the animal shelter”
Paul Steinauer, winemaker, Flora Springs: “I wish the very best for all of our servicemen and women who make it possible for us to have a Happy New Year.“My resolution for 2016 is to work hard at an exercise regimen so I can wear some clothes to those 80’s themed parties!”
Nicole Hitchcock, winemaker, J Vineyards: “My 2016 resolution is to experience more of the world – both literally and in wine. Simply, to travel more places and drink more wine and more water. Get outside more, ride my bike, walk the vineyards, take more hikes and experience the glory of Sonoma County; at least during those times that El Niño is not beating down.”
Scott Johnsen, winegrape grower, Frei Brothers: “In 2016, I have a few resolutions planned, not the least of which include enjoying the view outside at least once per day, get my hands dirtier, teach my daughter to ride a bike without training wheels, and play more basketball and guitar with my son. It’s going to be a busy year.”
Jen Wall, winemaker, Barefoot Wines: “My wish for 2016 is that everyone over 21, interested in wine, tries a sweet wine under $10. White wines like moscato or riesling bring new users into the wine category. I hope they take a chance on wine this year. My 2016 resolution is to find more nonprofit organizations and events, so I can pour Barefoot wine & Bubbly and introduce folks to our fun, flavorful and affordable brand and help raise money for their worthy causes.”
Boyd Morrison, winemaker, MacMurray Estate Vineyards: “In 2016, I’m going to spend more time outside in the vineyards. Also, to taste more and focus on making the best wines I can.”
Andrew Brenkwitz, winemaker, Byington Vineyard and Winery: “My wish for 2016 is that California can get out of its drought this year and for a bountiful harvest 2016 with impeccable fruit quality.“My goal in 2016 is to work hard to create natural wines that score well over 90 points. Sustainable techniques, paired with maximized finesse and unique styles, will be the key to providing a truly unique experience to Byington wine connoisseurs.”
