Several hundred movie goers, actors, directors and screenwriters appeared on the red carpet at the Egyptian Theater last night (Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016) for the premiere of “WEAPONIZED”, a Timothy Woodward Jr. film. Woodward is a South Carolina transplant in Hollywood, who started as an actor in several teen dramas
such as Palmetto Pointe, Whittaker Bay WGN, and Hollywood East, which later got picked up by HULU.com. More recently Woodward Jr. has focused on action films including Throwdown, Swat, Checkmate and 4Got10 with stars like Danny Glover, Danny Trejo, and Tom Sizemore. Their action gets better in each movie.
WEAPONIZED kicks off with a bang when Tom Sizemore, who plays Kyle Norris as a defense contractor, saying “Happy Birthday” to his son on his cell phone. His son works at the Pentagon. Suddenly the line disconnects and Sizemore hears this huge explosion. Seconds later breaking news on the TV reports that terrorists set off a bomb leaving many dead, including Norris’ son.
It turns out that Norris was secretly working on bio-mechanical weapons that allow the control of the enemy’s mind. After his son dies, Norris believes his secret weapon, which gains support from the military, is the only solution to terminate terrorists. A suspended Detective Walker (Johnny Messner), who runs across several unsolved homicides finally discovers the bio-mechanical weapon factory with the help of an Asian geek, who is not only great on government computer hacking but self-defense, too when Norris’ armed, goon squad come to retrieve a stolen flash drive. The geek kicks but, but also gets away and helps Detective Walker find clues to the mind-boggling, technology.
Even Timothy Woodward Jr., who directs this film plays a soldier, who returns from two tours in Iraq with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He meets Detective Walker (Johnny Messner) after being accused of a mass shooting at a hotel, of which he doesn’t remember doing it. Johnny Messner digs deeper and is taken off the case officially, but after his life is threatened, Detective Walker steals the show in finding the bad guys.
The film is a nonstop action, Sci-fi movie thriller of the future, where much of the film imitates life. But the biggest enemy turns out to be humans being transformed into doing bad things in a government cover-up. Mickey Rourke who plays Professor Clarence Peterson helps kick the film into high gear by revealing clues for Detective Johnny Messner in this Sci-Fi thriller but pays the price later. The movie was shot in just over three weeks, but the explosive stunts in the film, which usually take up to a year to pull off were in short order. Actress Taylor Code, in describing Director Timothy Woodward Jr., said, “He’s an amazing director and fun guy to work with, but at the same time very intense with his projects.” I highly recommend this movie that plays in New York, and Universal CityWalk (AMC) tonight (Friday, Feb. 26, 2016). I give this film two thumbs up for this must see action movie
