On Saturday, December 12, the International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC) in Watkins Glen, New York, will celebrate the end of the 2015 season by screening the new documentary film, “Winning,” about Paul Newman’s racing career. The center will also conclude its Conversation Series for the year by drawing its annual car raffle ticket. The raffle is a major fundraiser for the center.
The program for the day is free and open to everyone. Starting at 1:30 p.m., IMRRC historian Bill Green will speak about the racing career of the Hollywood actor prior to showing the film at the Glen Theater in the village. According to the IMRRC, Green and the center were involved in research and providing photographs for the movie.
“Winning” is written and directed by comedian and race enthusiast, Adam Corolla, and Nate Adams. The film features appearances, interviews, and/or archival footage with, among others, Mario Andretti, Michael Andretti, Dick Barbour, Bob Bondurant, Sam Posey, and members of the Hollywood community including Tom Cruise, Robert Redford, Joanne Woodward, Patrick Dempsey, and Jay Leno,
Prior to the film on Saturday, the raffle drawing for the 2015 Toyota Camry XSE will be held at the center at 610 S. Decatur Street at 1 p.m.. The car was donated for the raffle by Toyota North America.
“With a Toyota Camry as our raffle car, we join the many fans of Kyle Busch in celebrating his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship – at the wheel of a Camry,” J.C. Argetsinger, IMRRC president, said.
Busch’s 2015 championship is the first NASCAR victory for Toyota, which celebrated its 11th season in NASCAR this year. A Toyota XSE was the model that paced this season’s races at Watkins Glen International as well as at other NASCAR tracks.
The winning ticket will be drawn by Judy McKinney Cherry, executive director of the local economic development agency, SCOPED, Schuyler County Partnership for Economic Development. The holder of the winning ticket need not be present to win the car.
The car is valued at $35,004. No more than 3,504 raffle tickets will be sold, and tickets are still available. The price is $40 for one or $100 for three. Ticket sales are limited to residents of the continental United States. Contact the IMRRC at (607) 535-9044 or visit its website for more information on purchasing raffle tickets.
After the drawing at 1 p.m. at the center and the commentary and film at the Glen Theater starting at 1:30 p.m., the audience is invited back to the center for refreshments and conversation to celebrate the end of the center’s 2015 Conversation Series.
