Phil Wagner filled the net with four goals to lead the host St. Louis Park Orioles to a 13-10 win over the Forest Lake Rangers Saturday afternoon.
The game was originally scheduled to be played at Forest Lake but it was moved to St. Louis Park due to field issues. It was also the first home for new Oriole head coach Chris Bixby.
The Rangess didn’t suffer bus lag from their long trip down I-35 as Lane Jorgenson scooped up a ground ball on the right side of the net and put it in. Jackson Lochan would tie the game for the Orioles on a liner. The score would be even at two as Hunter Hamernick would score for Forest Lake and Jack Breyak would tally for St. Louis Park. The Orioles would close out the first quarter with a pair of goals from Wagner to take a 4-2 lead.
In the second quarter, the Orioles would increase their lead to four as Jack Hermes would find the net on a pass from Zack Ryan :24 into the quarter and go top shelf after receiving a pass from Wagner. The Rangers would come close with three straight goals, two coming from Spencer Marsh and the third from Jorgenson. There was plenty of action before halftime as Marsh would get the hat trick with :32 remaining and Wagner would also pick up his third goal :19 later to give St. Louis Park a 7-6 halftime lead.
Marsh, one of seven Ranger seniors would open up the third quarter with his fourth goal to tie the game at seven. The Orioles would forge ahead with three unanswered goals. Mitchell Vortherms, Jackson Lochan and Wagner would put St. Louis Park ahead 10-7 at the end of the third quarter.
Going to the fourth quarter, Forest Lake would cut the lead to one on two straight goals from Hamernick. Could the Rangers pick up their first win of the season in their fourth game? It would not be the case as Lochan and Wagner would tally for the Orioles and Lochan fired another shot to the net :24 later. Marsh would pick up his fourth goal with :42 to play and that would wrap up the scoring.
The Orioles improved their record to 2-3 and return to action on Monday May 9 as they host the Roseville Raiders at 7 PM. The Rangers lost their fourth straight game and fell to 0-4. They will head to Woodbury on Monday, May 2 to take on the East Ridge Raptors at 7 PM.
