To get to this matchup, the Wildcats have been dominant, beating their opponents in the tournament by an average of over 23 points a game. They dispatched of UNCA, followed by Iowa and then Miami (Fl) most recently in the Sweet Sixteen. Kansas has taken down Austin Peay 105-79, followed by Connecticut 73-61 and then Maryland 79-63 in order to contend for a shot at the Final Four.
Point guard Ryan “Arch” Arcidiacono has been leading the way for the Wildcats in the Big Dance, as he scored 21 points against the Hurricanes and also recorded four assists and three steals in the win. Frank Mason III will be the one-on-one matchup for Arcidiacono on Saturday night and could be a tough one for the Villanova senior captain. Perry Ellis and Wayne Selden Jr. have continued to be Kansas’ top stars throughout the postseason. Ellis had 27 points against the Terrapins on 10-for-17 shooting while Selden Jr. had 19. The duo also combined for 43 against the Connecticut Huskies, who have a similar statistical ranking to Villanova in terms of defense and free throw shooting, but may lack the firepower. Tonight’s game could easily be the best matchup of this round of the dance.
The Kansas Jayhawks come into tonight’s big game as favorites by two points on the spread. Both teams have gone 3-0 overall against the spread during the tournament, with Kansas 3-0 as the favorite. On the moneyline, the Jayhawks are -135 favorites while Villanova is a +115 underdog. The over/under points total is at +145 for the complete game.
