The Vanderbilt vs. Wichita State live stream online and televised NCAA tournament game will be part of the opening day of the First Four in Dayton, Ohio. It will be a battle between the 24-8 Shockers, who were plagued by injuries this season and a Vanderbilt team that finished 19-13 and was on the bubble at the start of the SEC tournament. Tonight they get a chance to prove who deserves a No. 11 seed and a first round matchup with the No. 6 seed Arizona Wildcats on Thursday. The 2016 March Madness live streaming and televised game will be available through various sources on Tuesday evening.
According to an ESPN.com report on March 14, the Shockers are heading into tournament play with mostly good health on their side again as guard Fred VanVleet will be ready to go after an earlier season left hamstring injury. Landry Shamet and Anton Grady were also hit by different injuries with Shamet’s season ended. Grady lost feeling in his arms and legs after a collision back in November, but he’s been back and recently scored 14 points off the bench while grabbing six boards in the team’s semifinal loss to Northern Iowa. The team still finished 16-2 in the conference and seemed like they might snag a last moment entry into the tournament, which they did, although they’ll need to defeat Vanderbilt to get to the first round. The Shockers have the nation’s top defense, allowing opponents just 59.3 points per game.
The Commodores nearly failed to make the Big Dance despite an 11-7 record in the SEC which was good for a third place tie with South Carolina. Vanderbilt currently features guard Wayne Baldwin IV leading the offense as he’s been scoring 14.3 points a game and dishing out over five assists a content. He also leads the team in steals as he’s got 1.2 per game. Forward Luke Kornet is the team’s resident big man as he leads with 7.2 rebounds and three blocks a game. The team doesn’t necessarily rank in the top 25 or 50 teams when it comes to any stats, but has been able to upset a tough Kentucky team on the road 74-62 this season, showing just what they are capable of. Can they get past a pesky Shockers’ defense though?
According to odds makers, Wichita State will be favorites on the point spread with four points in their favor at most books. The Shockers have been 21-11 against the spread this season with a 20-9 ATS record as the favorite. Vanderbilt is 15-17 ATS overall or 2-6 ATS as the underdog. The over/under points total for tonight’s game is set at 134-1/2 at most books. Of note, ESPN’s Basketball Power Index has indicated that these are two teams in the top 30 of the index. Both have been given at least a 40 percent chance of pulling off the first round upset over the higher-seeded Arizona Wildcats on Thursday. The two teams also have about a 20 percent chance to get to the Sweet Sixteen.
