The USA vs. Colombia U23 live stream online and televised soccer matchup on Tuesday night will be the second of the evening for qualifying for a major event. In an earlier game in Columbus, Ohio, the U.S. men’s national team is playing in a qualification game for the 2018 World Cup. In this game, the men’s under 23 team will be trying to punch their ticket to this summer’s 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They’ll have a tough task at hand, but will play the Colombians in Frisco, Texas, meaning plenty of home area fans should be in attendance to rally them to victory. The 2016 Olympics soccer qualifying match will be live streaming and televised thanks to ESPN networks.
According to MLS Soccer in their March 28 report, while the senior team suffered a loss at Guatemala in their qualifying matchup last week, the U.S. Under-23s were able to come away with a 1-1 tie against Colombia. In tonight’s matchup, the ideal scenario for the U-23 squad is either a victory or a scoreless tie. Colombia will be able to advance with a win or a tie of 2-2 or more, but if the matchup ends at 1-1 in regulation, the teams move to play two extra 15-minute periods. A penalty kick shootout would decide the winner if the teams remain 1-1 without scoring in the extra sessions. If Colombia and the U.S. both happen to score the same number of goals in the extra time, the away-goals tiebreaker gives Colombia the edge and sends them to the Olympics.
In last week’s tie, Colombia was dominant in terms of time of possession with the ball held over 75 percent of the play on field. They also outshot Team USA 26-6 in the matchup. The Americans were playing a bit more defense though as they were able to grab a 1-0 score to stay ahead for a good bit. Head coach Andi Herzog said that particular strategy was used while playing in Colombia, and he recently told the media, “In the second half, we were missing a lot of energy because sometimes we were giving away the ball too easily and that happens, you overcompensate. But next week we will have more possession, I assure you.”
The United States Under-23 team comes into this matchup at a price of +185 to win the matchup. Colombia finds itself as a +130 favorite, while a draw is priced at +220. The first half moneyline prices are USA U23 at +245, Colombia at +210 and a draw at +105. The over/under goals total of this matchup at the Toyota Stadium is 2-1/2 goals for the game. The team that gets the qualifying win from this matchup will move on to participate in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games this summer which begin on August 5 and run through the 21st in Brazil.
