An unbelievable rescue and recovery have meant that Broklin, a dog who was once minutes from death at Miami Dade Animal Services, is now ready for a home of his own.
Broklin was saved minutes before being killed at Miami Dade Animal Services, but his ordeal was not over. Unbeknownst to his rescuer, Broklin’s leg had literally rotted away under a bandage that covered his leg. Furry Critters Rescue Foundation pulled Broklin just minutes before he was to be killed at the Miami Dade Animal Services. During his stay at this county shelter, this once-healthy dog somehow suffered an injury to his leg. Between December 8th and December 22nd, Broklin was in good health. But at some point before December 31st, he was injured and the shelter bandaged his leg. They didn’t provide antibiotics, and the leg began to rot. Some volunteers suspect that he was attacked by another dog.
Broklin’s plight was featured in the Examiner article “Dog’s leg rots under cast due to shelter neglect, rescuer claims.” That was when the rescue stepped in to save Broklin’s life. The shelter had neglected his leg so badly that when the veterinarian took off the bandage, the bones of his leg were clearly visible. The tissue and muscle had disappeared because of the infection.
In spite of his horrendous condition and care at the shelter, Broklin is one of the lucky ones. He made it out alive. He had a rescue willing to pay for the best in treatment for him. He was treated at Sunset Animal Hospital and they gave his leg laser treatments to promote tissue regrowth. Their treatment saved his leg.
So now Broklin, whose owner left him to die at Miami Dade Animal Services, is ready for a new life and a new home. He is around six years old. The rescue is still hoping to get donations to help pay for Broklin’s expensive medical care. Donations can be made at Help Broklin Recover. No amount is too small.
The most recent post about Broklin is on this Facebook thread. The post says:
Our boy BROKLIN who was “somehow” injured, while in the care of MDAS, and had his leg literally rotting away under the cast that MDAS applied, is ready to leave the awesome care of Sunset Animal Hospital where he has been undergoing treatments including laser therapy, to promote tissue regrowth in hopes that his leg could be saved. He is currently in Florida but transport can be arranged to an approved home. If you are interested in adopting Broklin, please email his rescuer at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Broklin is a sweet, affectionate and friendly dog. He was listed as a rottie mix by the shelter, but he looks like a lovely mix of breeds. He wags his tail often and loves being petted. He gets along with other dogs and loves being outside. Broklin will even smile when he’s happy! Please share Broklin’s story to help him get a loving home where he will be spoiled for the rest of his life. He deserves it!
