With significant construction and attraction downtime on the docket for 2016, the Disneyland resort is hoping to encourage potential visitors with a newly filmed television special celebrating the resort’s illustrious past and promising future. Disney is marketing the program as a star-studded event with celebrity guests on hand to provide relevant entertainment as well as information about the park.
The broadcast will take place, per the Disney Parks Blog, in “…both the heart of Hollywood at the Dolby Theater and at some of the most iconic locations throughout the Disneyland Resort including Sleeping Beauty Castle, Main Street, U.S.A., and Cars Land.” Two-time Emmy Award winner Derek Hough will preside over the event and introduce an array of entertainment including a special performance by Elton John in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland park. The world-renowned solo artist will of course perform his Oscar-nominated song Circle of Life from Disney’s The Lion King, as well as the new song “Wonderful Crazy Night” from his upcoming album.
Standout elements debuted during the resort’s Diamond Celebration will also make the broadcast scene. The anniversary edition of Disney California Adventure’s World of Color will be shown off in addition to Disneyland park’s spectacular new fan-favorite Paint the Night parade. Actor Harrison Ford will also be on hand to preview Disneyland’s brand new Star Wars land, the largest expansion in park history. To see all that’s in store, watch “The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60” on Sunday, Feb. 21 on the ABC Television Network.
