Hello New York Doll Collectors, and Doll Collectors around the country. In the month of February, we celebrate the observances of Saint Valentines. Yes, this would be the sending of greeting cards, flowers, gifts, candy and dolls. Yes dolls! What else could be more wonderful, than giving a doll to someone we love. Well, that’s what we would do as dedicated doll collectors. We definitely wouldn’t mind if a doll or dolls were presented to us. So as many are presented with a bundle of flowers, here we will bestow upon all, a look, a glance, a loving eye on two of Madame Alexanders dolls, Beautiful Ballerina, and Pink Princess.
The themes of the dolls are not necessarily Valentines. They are not covered in hearts and streams of valentine cards. But they are made with loads of beautifully put together fabrics of juicy sweet colors, of light and dark pink hues, lots of sparkles to dazzle our eyes and to warm the icicles, formed on our hearts, put there by the cold, cold temperatures of winter.
Let’s take a look at our beautiful, Beautiful Ballerina. A dancer. Not a theme one would think of, when in line with Valentines day? But it should, for this doll could dance love into the hardest of “hearts”. This ballerina, with her presence of grace and sweetness, pirouettes and leaps with colors of sherbet pink. And it’s with two types of pink. One pink, is a deeper and darker shade, layered over the top her tutu. This color, is also the same shade of pink for the shrug she wears on her shoulders and arms. The pink shrug is worn, elegantly over a light pink leotard type top. The top is decorated with a painted silhouette, of her two pink, ballet toe shoes. Looking again, the tutu, the fuller and more flair part of dance custom, is a lighter shade of pink. It is a fine fabric of tulle, with delicate lining at the hem, giving a feeling of soft petals on a rose. The top layer follows this same style. What a beautiful contrast, and yet, it is as if, each color could blend into one another, creating a color that moves in motion. Kind of like a wave of rhythm from the heart. And finally, Beautiful Ballerina, with her hair in a lovely coiffed, pompom on top of her head, wears soft light, sheer tights, pink ballet slippers, with pink ribbon ties. What sweetness this doll possesses, and absolutely brings in the celebration of Valentines. This doll, available in both skin tones of ebony and Ivory, goes for the price of $59.95. A doll that can be loved for those who want something truly warming for Valentines.
The next doll we want to talk about is Pink Princess. Another thought that may come to mind, is that, this is far from being a Valentines theme. Ah, but let’s think again. Our beautiful Pink Princess has the power to grant us our deepest heartfelt wishes; like the opportunity to bestow our attention to a doll that could take our breath away. And she has that power too. Our beauty is dressed in a three layer gown of delicateness. She is wearing a sheer, deep pink layered fabric, lined with sparkles. The edges are adorned with light, fluffy folds, that give a volume to the entire gown. It’s really the dreamy part of the dress. The same fabric is gathered around the shoulders and at the top of the bodice area of the dress. It’s gathered together at the waist, with a very deep, red colored, ribbon and bow. Underneath this deep pink color of shimmering glamour, is a lighter shade of pink, covered with a soft tulle fabric, that brings out the satiny like fabric and fullness of the skirt part of the dress. Finally our beautiful Pink Princess is wearing a crown of jewels, dotted with a pink gem, placed upon her silky white blonde tresses. What an adorable doll to behold.
So as we think of the celebration of Valentines in the month of February, with cards, flowers and candy; remember that there is also the warmness and sweetness of a beautiful source of our devotion as doll collectors. And that is the sweetness of dolls!
