Update: ISIS has announced they are responsible for the attack that took place Tuesday morning in Brussels.
Tuesday morning, Brussels awoke to a terrorists attacking their city in multiple sites. At the airport, in the metro and as of 8:22 AM EST, 26 people have been killed in the attacks. So far, no terrorist groups have taken responsibility but political and military experts believe it is the work of Muslim extremists. These attacks come on the heels of the arrest of the Paris terror plot mastermind Salah Abdeslam who had claimed that “he was ready to restart something from Brussels, and it’s maybe the reality,” Foreign Minister Didier Reynders said.
Tueday, in the aftermath, there will be discussions as to how secure European nations are when their own borders are in constant flux with the arrival of more refugees and with them, members of ISIS. Tuesday morning, Donald Trump, appearing by phone on the Today Show, again warned that more acts of violence will follow if nations such as the United States and those in Europe do not secure their borders and create a better vetting system to allow this people into these countries.
Tuesday on the Today Show, Trump again warned of continuing cases of terrorism existing due to the influx of Syrians and other refugees pouring into European nations. On New Year’s Eve, more than 100 women were sexually assaulted throughout the cities of Cologne and Hamburg by those who have been called Muslim refugees from Syria. Trump has stated these conditions will continue to grow as those who have emigrated as refugees do not have any plans to assimilate to their new countries. Trump lists examples such as the sexual assaults as proof of that theory.
Speaking by phone on the situation in Brussels specifically, he said, “”They’re just a city that used to be one of the finest and one of the most beautiful and one of the safest cities in the world, and now it’s a catastrophic, very dangerous city where the police have very little control.” Continuing he explained that the country of Belgium has been torn apart by immigrants and that there is little control over their activities. Reporters from Belgium have stated that indeed the country has the feel of 3 different nations because of the immigration crisis. There are the original residents of Belgium, Syrian refugees and other migrants. Three countries under one nation. There is the feeling that there is no national sovereignty.
Trump said of the immigrants, “Belgium is no longer Belgium,” he said. “Belgium is a horror show right now. This all happened because frankly there’s no assimilation. They are not assimilating for whatever reason. They don’t want laws that we have, they want Sharia Law, and you say to yourself, at what point, how much of this do you take?”
Trump has argued since he announced his candidacy that the number one threat to the national security of the United States is the protection on the nation’s borders. “A nation without borders is not a secured nation” Trump had declared. Tuesday morning terrorists took full advantage of that situation in Brussels, Belgium just as they did in Paris in November. The picture of why the United States needs to secure their borders became quite clearer after these new attacks in Belgium.
