If you have ever watched one of the Friday the 13th movies, you are familiar with the lead character, Jason. Jason is very often stabbed, shot, burned and much more. Despite all of these attacks from multiple people, Jason lives to die another day.
This is much like Trump in the current election cycle. He has fended off attacks by sixteen competitors on the Republican side as well as two democrats. Most everyone in the media has attacked him for his remarks, political views, personality as well as his past.
The political action committees have spent millions upon millions attacking him. Radio host such as Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck have backed other candidates and have pointed out Trumps flaws on an hourly basis.
Trump gets thousands of hours more airtime than the other candidates but most of that is negative press. The only media personality of note supporting Trump is Ann Coulter. There is an actual movement called by various names such as stop Trump, Dump Trump, anybody but Trump.
Say what you want about Trump and his views but you have to agree that Trump is by far the toughest candidate we have ever seen in the current political era. Trump is the “Jason” of politics and despite the punditry that predicts his demise, he continues to gain ground.
If Trump were an unstoppable force in a horror movie, we would be at the scene where the main character would have to destroy it or be destroyed. This is the current state of the Republican establishment. They believe they must take a chance and use any option they can to stop Trump or be destroyed.
The Republicans should move very methodically before they make a hasty decision. Trump is riding a wave of support largely due to his stance on immigration. Trump is the rock that others beat themselves against and there is no indication that will change anytime soon.
When many voters see the establishment types trying to stop Trump by any means, they see that as an attempt to stop the will of the voters. This will not help the party to continue as a viable entity in the long term. If the GOP can support the will of the voters, there is a tremendous opportunity to bring in many new people to the voting process. More importantly, a Trump win will limit the number of illegal immigrants and that will help the Republican Party over time.
Though many people are still trying to derail the Trump train, it has the force and momentum of a locomotive and will be difficult to stop.
