Greenfield Village, located at The Henry Ford Museum complex in Dearborn, Michigan (near Detroit) is offering several opportunities (6 different dates) for you to treat your children to A Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine filled with family-fun activities and entertainment.
Departing from the Smith’s Creek Depot in Greenfield Village every 30 minutes beginning at 9:30 a.m. (The last train departs at 4:30 p.m.), passengers will get to enjoy a a 20 minute train ride around the entire perimeter of the Village and get to meet the Controller of the Railway, Sir Topham Hatt. Passengers will also get to participate in Thomas-themed activities like storytelling, live musical entertainment, arts & crafts, temporary tattoos, video viewing and magic shows.
There are no reserved seats on the train. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis in each of the five open-sided train cars. It is highly recommended that passengers arrive one hour before their scheduled departure time. Boarding will begin 30 minutes before each departure. It is also highly recommended that you purchase your tickets in advance as this event commonly sells out. Tickets are required for all passengers ages 1 and up.
The Day Out With Thomas event will take place regardless of the weather. Dates for the Day Out With Thomas event are April 30, May 1, May 7-8 and May 14-15. Admission to Greenfield Village is required to take part in the Thomas event (which permits you to spend all day at Greenfield Village). Cost for adults is $37.75. Cost for seniors is $35.25 while cost for youth (5-12) is $31.25. Admission for children (1-4) is $11.75. Remember — the cost of the tickets includes all day admission to Greenfield Village and the Day Out With Thomas event. Cost for members of all ages is $11.75. There is a $6 parking fee for non-members.
Railroader’s Breakfast If you really want to make your visit special, add the Railroader’s Breakfast (7:45 a.m. – 9 a.m.) to your plans. Guests get breakfast at the Taste of History restaurant in the Village (buttermilk pancakes with a choice of toppings, sausage links, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit salad, roasted potatoes, mini muffins with local jams and butter, a cereal bar and orange juice, coffee, tea or water), special access parking at the Eagle Tavern parking lot, admission to Greenfield Village all day and a special 9 a.m. train ride with Thomas the Tank Engine.
You will also be able to enjoy live musical entertainment by the Picks & Sticks Stringband during breakfast and there will be railroad-themed storytelling and a visit from Greenfield Village’s Village Hobo. It is also rumored that Sir Topham Hatt will also be making a guest appearance at the breakfast.
Cost for the Railroader’s Breakfast is $53.75 for adults, $51.25 for seniors, $43.25 for youth and $23.25 for children. Children 11 months and under are free. Prices for adult members and senior members is $27.75 while the price for youth and children members is $23.75.
