The search for a police canine, who disappeared during a fierce Texas thunderstorm earlier this month, has come to a tragic conclusion, reported Tuesday’s KXAN News. On Monday, the body “Chico,” a Dutch Shepherd with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, was discovered in a debris covered ditch on FM 970 and SH 195 – it appears that the dog drowned not long after he escaped from his outdoor kennel and ran.
Chico had pushed his kennel door open and then managed to get through another gate surrounding the yard before he ran away in early March. The Sheriff’s Department had reached out to the public with a request for help to find the missing canine.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Department stated:
He was identified by his collar. This is a sad day for the Sheriff’s Office, as all employees were hoping for his safe return. Chico will be cremated and memorialized at a private service in the coming week.
