Tournament of Roses Association Pres. Brad Ratliff announced the leadership and organization for the 2016-2017 term on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, immediately after being named as President. The 14-member Executive Committee will oversee the 2017 Rose Parade, Rose Bowl Game, and related events. Each year, one Association member is elected to the group of seven who will rotate into the presidency. Ed Morales, a volunteer since 1992 and most recently chair of the Queen and Court Committee, was voted in and will ascend to the office for the 2024 events, including the 135th Rose Parade and 110th Rose Bowl Game.
In addition to Queen and Court, Morales served on and chaired several Tournament committees, including Membership, Community Relations, Media Operations, Decorating Places and Post Parade. He was appointed a Tournament chairman in 2006 and director in 2011. A lifelong resident of the San Gabriel Valley, Morales and his family currently reside in Pasadena. He and his wife, Lisa, have been married for 18 years and have two children, Elena, 13 and Jessica, 10.
Morales was raised in the City of San Gabriel and graduated from Don Bosco Technical Institute in Rosemead, received his undergraduate degree in history from UCLA, and earned his Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School. He is a partner at the Law Offices of Borton Petrini, LLP. He is a member of the California State Bar, Los Angeles County Bar Association and admitted to practice in United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and United States District Court, Central District of California.
As a volunteer, he is currently first vice-president on the School Board at St. Philips the Apostle School and chair of the Policy & Planning Committee and is a member of the Pasadena Optimist Club. He was the 66th president of the Pasadena Jaycees and served on the Jaycee’s board for four years, and was on the board of directors for Foothill Family Services and Hathaway-Sycamores.
Officers of the Executive Committee
In addition to Ratliff and Morales, the officers were elected to the Executive Committee. The years in parentheses indicate the Tournament of Roses year of their presidencies. They are Lance Tibbet, executive vice president (2018), Gerald K. Freeny, treasurer (2019), Laura Farber, secretary (2020), and vice presidents Robert B. Miller (2021), Amy Wainscott (2022), Alex Aghajanian (2023). Mike Matthiessen, president of the 2016 Tournament of Roses, serves as past president.
The five appointed at-large members are Amy Garrity, Karyn Grime, Leo Cablayan, Sonja Rojas and Ron Rodriguez. Ratliff also announced the election of three new members to the Tournament of Roses board of directors: Jay Brown, Craig Washington and Ruth Martinez.
