Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are being sued for an auto accident that his son, Chet Hanks, caused in 2015, according to Newser, March 29, 2016. while he was allegedly high on drugs. The lawsuit was filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court by Terry Moogan and in the documents Terry claims that Chet was high on drugs at the time of the accident. Terry believes that Chet’s parents aree responsible for his pain and suffering.
Terry Moogan claimed that in February 2015, he was driving responsibly on the 110 when he was rear-ended by Chet Hanks.
“Chester Hanks was driving his vehicle in an unreasonable and unsafe manner and was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol at the time his vehicle struck Mr. Moogan’s vehicle.”
The lawsuit is aimed at Chet’s parents because it is alleged that they knew their son Chet had a problem with drugs and alcohol, yet they gave him the car keys that day.
“Despite knowing that Chester Hanks was a careless and reckless driver and a habitual user of drugs and alcohol, they negligently permitted Chester Hanks to operate their vehicle and thus, in addition to Chester Hanks, are responsible for the physical and emotional injuries Mr. Moogan sustained as the result of the accident.”
The lawsuit claims that Terry suffered from some serious injuries, but they did not specifically claim what the problems were, nor did they ask for a specific amount of money. Although Terry’s lawyers claim that because of the crash, he suffered from whiplash and he received an injury to his brain when his head hit the dashboard.
Unfortunately, the police were not called at the time of the accident, so they cannot go back to check on the reports of sustained injuries, or whether Chet was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It is also reported by Terry’s lawyers that Chet begged Terry not to call law enforcement.
Many are wondering if Terry Moogan has a right to sue the son’s parents when they were not the ones driving or in the car. E! News reported that they might be partially to blame.
“Because Tom and Rita are the parents and the owners of the vehicle Chet was driving, Terry and his legal team argue that they are responsible for the physical and emotional injuries sustained as a result of the crash.”
Being the son of a prominent actor, Chet is often in the spotlight and some of the information going on about him was not the best. Chet is a rapper, who raps under the name Chet Haze, and he used the N-word with frequency. He came under fire for using it and in June 2015, he defended his right to use that word when he posted a rap song on Instagram to prove it.
One lyric in his video said, “Look, I know the majority of y’all are not going to get this, because the history is still so fresh in our country. However, hip-hop is not about race. It is about the culture you identify with. And can’t anyone tell me what I can’t say.”
Chet was asked whether his parents approve of his word choices to which he responded, “They don’t really tell me what to do anymore because I’m grown. They just are making sure that I’m happy and safe and that’s all.”
However, they did offer their son some advise about using social media by asking him to stay off them. Chet believed, like many of the young ckids, when it comes to their parents advice, that “they’re the old generation. They don’t get it. This is the new generation. We do things differently now.”
But, time has a way of changing people, and Chet Hanks was no exception. He apparently started to look at his choices especially when it came to drugs and alcohol and he wanted to change things. To show he had become more responsible, he apologized for saying the N-word.
“I know a lot of y’all kind of understood the point I was trying to make, but the truth is it’s not my place to speak on that. And I’m genuinely sorry for the people I offended.”
In another online video, Chet Hanks said, “Hey I just want to say, I know, like, my name’s been in the media about me like, going missing or getting kidnapped or something…I’ve been in rehab. I’ve been trying to get my s–t together and I’m doing pretty damn well, you know what I’m saying?”
“I just had to really take a look at myself and my life and the way s–t was going and all the crazy, stupid s–t I was doing and just finally admit to myself that it wasn’t working and I had to try something new and that thing was to not do any drugs or alcohol.”
Chet Hanks tried to reach out to others by letting them know that if he could quit the destructive lifestyle, then anyone could. “A couple months ago I was selling coke, doing coke until I couldn’t even snort it up my nose anymore because it was so clogged. I even smoked crack. If I can change you can change. There is a solution.”
Chet Hanks began to chronicle his journey through video and he did not claim the credit of changing his life around for himself. He gave the credit to his religious faith, his family, and his friends. His videos were on Instagram, but Chet has removed them and closed the page down.
Do you think this new lawsuit filed by Terry Moogan will change Chet Hanks back into the person he was back then? Or has Chet come to the place where he can deal with the problems of life and solve situation responsibly?
