Danny Zelisko Presents and the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix recently announced two upcoming shows that will be held at the historic Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix. On Sunday, May 8, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., legendary singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/producer Todd Rundgren will return to Phoenix. Later in the year, 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Chicago, will bring their rock and roll with horns sound to the Celebrity on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 7:30 p.m.
Rundgren will stop in Phoenix as part of his “An Evening with Todd Rundgren-Spring Tour 2016.” Now in his sixth decade of performing, Rundgren boasts an array of hits such as “Hello It’s Me,” “Bang the Drum All Day,” “Can We Still Be Friends,” “I Saw The Light” and “We Gotta Get You a Woman.” In 2015, Rundren released his 25th solo album, “Global.”
When not performing as a solo artist, Rundgren has been in groups such as The Nazz and Utopia. Additionally, he has produced albums of artists such as Grand Funk Railroad, Meat Loaf, The Tubes, Cheap Trick, Hall & Oates and Patti Smith.
Chicago burst onto the music scene with their ground breaking album, “Chicago Transit Authority,” in 1969. With hits such as “Beginnings,” “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?” and “I’m A Man,” Chicago’s first album stayed on Billboard’s Top 100 Albums list for 171 consecutive weeks.
Their follow up album, “Chicago,” cemented Chicago’s popularity with songs such as “Make Me Smile,” “Colour My World,” and “25 or 6 to 4.” Since then, Chicago has produced twenty one Top Ten singles such as “Saturday in the Park,” “Call on Me,” “Hard to Say I’m Sorry,” “Look Away” and “You’re the Inspiration.”
Charting a Top 40 selling in album in six different decades finally got the notice of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, who in 2016 will induct Chicago as a member. An induction that most fans believe was long overdue.
