Dates for the 2016 Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival have been announced. The Mid Atlantic’s premier two-day Blues Fest will return to Sandy Point State Park, located on the western shore of the beautiful Chesapeake Bay just outside Annapolis, MD, on May 21 and 22, 2016. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 15, Early Bird pricing ends February 15. In addition to the concert stage with Jumbotron featuring world-class Blues music, there is also a large crafter village area that feature arts, crafts and commercial vendors, an extensive variety of food and drink, stunning beach views, and general lawn seating.
Since the first festival in 1998, this event has raised over $1 million for numerous local charities while bringing some of the top Blues performers to the beautiful shores of the Chesapeake. Performers are still being booked for this year’s festival and the line-up will be announced shortly. The festival usually includes six to seven acts per day. The 2016 lineup is sure to continue the tradition of providing phenomenal music legends to grace the Sandy Point stage such as last year’s headliners Buddy Guy and Gregg Allman.
Gates open at 10:30am and live music runs from 11:00am through 9:00pm on Saturday and 11:00am through 8:00pm on Sunday. This is a rain or shine event, there are no refunds. Proceeds do go to charity after all. This year’s charities are We Care and Friends (a non-profit volunteer organization that offers assistance to homeless and those in need,) Special Love, Inc. (a Winchester-based non-profit for children with cancer and their families in the Mid-Atlantic region,) and Camp FACE (a program founded by the specialists at Johns Hopkins and Mercy Medical Center who treat patients with complex facial deformities.)
Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival general admission ticket prices are $50 per day and $95 for both days, until Feb. 16. After that date advance tickets are $65 per day and $115 for two days. Prices do not include ticket fees and service charges. Tickets can be ordered by phone at 410-982-0799 or online here. VIP Tickets are also available. The VIP package includes two passes for Saturday and two passes for Sunday, one weekend parking pass in the VIP parking lot, two meals per person each day, free beer, wine, sodas and water, a VIP Bathroom, one event program and special Lawn Seating in the VIP seating area located upfront by the stage. The VIP tickets are $545 during early bird and $575 in advance, they always sell out and are never available at the door.
When attending the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival make sure to bring low back lawn and beach chairs or blankets and sunblock. Easy-ups and sun tents may be used on the beach as long as they do not impede the view of the stage for other festival attendees. Outside food, drinks and coolers are not permitted. This means absolutely no glass bottles and alcoholic beverages. No pets are allowed. Professional audio and video recording equipment or cameras with long telephoto lenses and tripods are not allowed without a media pass.
Parking is limited inside the park and is available first come first serve for $15 per car. A highly recommended shuttle service is available running to and from the event throughout the day. Park at the Naval Academy Stadium or at Kent Island High School on the Eastern Shore for $10 per vehicle. Shuttle service will drive past the long lines waiting to get into Sandy Point State Park and drops riders off at the festival entrance. Shuttles begin at both locations at 9:00am. Since this is a waterfront park arrival by boat possible, but it is restricted 600′ from shore and marked by buoys. Boaters may not come ashore. There is no docking, check local marinas for docking.
