Sunday marked the 88th Academy Awards ceremony and once again, the big winner of the evening was fashion. The top stars in movies, music and television, gathered at the Dolby Theatre here in LA for one of the hottest fashion extravaganzas of the year and what took place did not disappoint.
There were some memorable moments from last night’s event that still have all of Hollywood buzzing today. “Mad Max: Fury Road” swept the awards taking home six golden statuettes for its part in cinematic history. The feature film, “Spotlight” stole the show, winning the award for Best Picture. And the world cheered as Leo won Best Actor for his role in “The Revenant”, proving that this year he was definitely king of the Oscars.
From the Governors Ball to Vanity Fair, all weekend long there were parties to attend and plenty to celebrate as our favorite celebrities were seen out and about in Los Angeles.
First time Academy Award nominee, Rachel McAdams, was spotted at the William Morris Agency Pre-Oscar Party in Los Angeles on Friday night wearing a gorgeous black cutout dress from Rebecca Vallance. She dominated the red carpet on Sunday sporting a brand new platinum blonde look to go with her stunning August Getty Atelier emerald green dress.
Rachel McAdams was one, as well as model Chrissy Teigen, who embraced the train trend. The pregnant “FabLife” star looked absolutely radiant in her beaded floor length, red lace gown by Marchesa and her adoring husband, John Legend, by her side.
High slits were another trend we saw, like with actress Kerry Washington in Atelier Versace and with “Star Wars”-inspired Rooney Mara, who also incorporated the popular cutout look into her lovely Givenchy dress. Along with embellishments, and a wave of effortless hair and makeup, we also caught a red carpet first this year with loafers. Yes, the new men trend of the night was loafers, as seen on the Gucci rockin’ Academy Award winner, Jared Leto. It was one daring dive into fashion that still has everyone talking today.
Some other notable mentions go to the big head-turners of the night who made some fashion forward statements that turned out to be worth the risk. Lady Gaga went from “meat suit” to glamorous pantsuit/gown, as she showed up donning a custom design by her good friend, Brandon Maxwell.
The alluring Olivia Wilde looked utterly striking in a pleated white Valentino Haute Couture dress and a dazzling vintage jeweled choker. Best Supporting Actress winner, Alicia Vikander from “The Danish Girl”, channeled her inner fairy tale princess in a custom yellow Louis Vuitton gown with silver sequin embellishment. And, at the top of everyone’s best dressed list today, is none other than the always elegant, Cate Blanchett. Her seafoam green fairy tale fantasy had exquisite detail that was unmatched. Wearing an Armani Privé dress, Cate’s style wowed the crowds with her over-the-top embellishments and hand-sewn Swarovski crystals that shined just the right way when the light hit it.
Yes, the 88th Academy Awards made for an affair to remember. There were plenty of show-stopping moments to last us fashion fans for at least another year.
