Game day is usually a guys thing, not saying that there are not women out there who totally get into the game, just in general it is a “guy” thing! Again, stereo-typical, guys usually are meat eaters, but with the world becoming “one”, guys are realizing that women are a big part of the game and the game of “LIFE!” We have our first “F/T” female NFL coach now, there are female sports announcers, female owners, face it the world is a much more fun place to be with women around!
Let us respect each gender and embrace one another. Look at it like this, the world is like a bird. Men and women are like the wings of the bird. Each one is independent in its own way, yet are dependent on each other to fly! You can’t have one without the other! The world is a small place, there is no reason for anyone to be considered less than another. We are all equal in God’s eyes and we are all brothers and sisters. Love one another and let’s make the world “one” happy family.
O.K. since we are all not meat eaters, we have to be considerate of those who are vegetarians. That doesn’t mean to throw out some veggies and call it a day! No way, in fact, there are so many vegetarian recipes out there, one can go crazy for days, weeks, even months without ever eating meat! Some people go a life time never eating meat, so whatever makes you happy and creates a healthy environment for your “temple”, your body, do it! By the way, throw some veggies out anyways and a few interesting dips to go along with them. No reason not to have some alternative snacks around to munch on besides chips.
With so many recipes out there you won’t even miss the meat. The fact of the matter is the “veggies” are often the meat of the dish!
The following has been a long time tradition borrowed from some friends up in Amherst, Massachusetts. This sandwich is very versatile and can be cut into finger sandwiches and is great, served cold as an appetizer. You can cut the baguette into larger pieces and can be served cold or pressed, as a hot sandwich. It is almost “pizza-like” when it is pressed, yummy!
P.S. you can make several baguettes and serve one cold and wrap the other in foil. When ever you are ready to serve, pop it in the oven and bake for 10 minutes or so. Remove and slice into finger sandwiches for a hot version!)
The “Black sheep baguette” is made on a French baguette. Vegetarians and meat eaters alike, will enjoy this tasty creation. Place this sandwich along side the other recipes that have been shared in the last week or so and you will score some major “Touchdowns” with your guest! You know what happens when you score with food, that’s right, it is time for a “Super Mouthgasm!”.
The Black Sheep Baguette
To make approximately 15 – 20 finger sandwiches
- 1 – French Baguette – sliced in half long ways, leaving a “hinge” on the bread ( so it is still in one piece, but you can open it up to put the ingredients
- 1 – container of pesto (in the pasta areas of your local grocer or at any Italian deli )… or you can make your own pesto
- Sundried tomato slices in oil – (sometimes you can find them already marinated in oil, if not take sundried tomatoes and pour some olive oil over them. Place them in a microwave container and heat them for 1-2 minutes. Let sit for at least an hour to marinate.
- 2 – 3 balls of Fresh milk mozzarella – cows or Buffalo (Buffalo milk mozzarella is much richer in flavor but is more expensive! Cows milk is just as good for this recipe!) cut into thick slices, approximately 1/4 inch thick
- Balsamic Vinegar
To assemble the sandwich:
Take the sliced baguette and open it up. Spread the pesto on both side of the bread. Take the marinated slices of sundried tomatoes and layer them on one side of the bread. Then on top of the sundried tomatoes place the slices of fresh milk mozzarella. Sprinkle the Balsamic vinegar on both sides of the bread. Fold the sandwich back together and wrap tightly in plastic wrap. Let it sit in the refrigerator for a couple of hours (or overnight, if making in advance) to let the flavors meddle together.
At service time, unwrap the sandwich and cut into “finger thick” slices. Arrange on a platter and garnish with a big sprig of fresh basil. Viola! You have another super munchie good for anytime, especially the big game day!
Remember as the game day gets closer that the roads, restaurants and stores will be busier. Be extra kind and give respect to both teams and their supporters. Most of all, be kind to yourself, so that you will overflow with some “Super Good” feelings of love. Then you will “feel” the LOVE and everyone you pass will feel the love. Hopefully those feelings will then spread and the world starts to become a “Super” place to live! Let’s show the world that America is taking the first step towards creating “Peace” on earth! Peace!
Some people bring happiness when they step into a room; others when they leave!
