Located just a short distance to the north of LA on the old Highway 101, Santa Barbara has been a trendy tourist spot for literally as long as anyone can remember. Close enough to Los Angeles and Beverly Hills to get your day of sightseeing in but far enough away to find plenty of space to relax, this is the place to be this summer when there is a stellar lineup of events planned that will appeal to visitors of all ages.
Haven’t booked your vacation yet? Look what’s in town this summer so you can reserve your tickets and find the perfect vacation rental from Paradise Retreats. This promises to be a year like no other. Here is some of what you’ll find this summer in Santa Barbara.
1. Roar & Pour Festival – May 7
Located at the zoo, you will not only be able to stay up very, very late with the animals but you will also get to taste some of the best wines from at least 30 local vineyards. Roar with the beasts and pour another glass of that oh, so fragrant local vino.
2. Turtle (& Tortoise) Awareness Day – May 14
Complete with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, what kid would want to miss this event? Santa Barbara may be a world class tourist hub but there really is a little of something for everyone. This one, again, is located at Santa Barbara’s magnificent zoo.
3. I Madonnari Street Painting Festival – May 28 thru May 30
How exciting will it be to watch street painters literally transform the look of the Mission Plaza with pastels applied to the pavement? This is ‘graffiti’ at its very classiest best. A true art form just now coming into its own.
4. Zoo Brew – June 4
So then, a lot does take place at the zoo but if you had a zoo in your city as spectacular as the one here in Santa Barbara, you’d probably hold a lot of events there too. Bear in mind that this wine and food tasting event sells out within mere hours so keep a watch out for the tickets to go on sale.
5. Summer Solstice Celebration – June 24 thru June 26
This is a parade to end all parades. With more than 1,000 people participating in the parade that starts at the corner of State and Cota at 12 noon, you will get to see some amazing floats, taste some delectable local treats and just have a whole lot of fun in the sun Santa Barbara style. Welcome in the summer on this time of the solstice.
6. Santa Barbara Wine Festival – June 25
Can you tell that wine is a big local industry? Here is another wine tasting festival sure to whet the pallet. Those connoisseurs who come to sample the local goods will be in their glory this summer because of all the local vineyards bringing the best of the best to be shared by all.
These are just six of the early summer events taking place in Santa Barbara. Don’t forget there are French, Spanish and Greek festivals this summer where you can taste authentic ethnic dishes and of course you will want to stop by the Santa Barbara Certified Farmer’s Market beginning May 1 on every day but Monday or Wednesday. Remember to book your lodging and events early as they sell out weeks if not months before the events. Have a safe and sunny summer and enjoy your stay in Santa Barbara, one of the most exciting cities on the California coast.
