After having one of the longest soft openings in theme park history and 3 days of amazing premiere events, “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” Hollywood is officially open to the public. Only at Universal Studios would you have a premiere where award-winning composer John Williams conducts the L.A. Philharmonic synchronized to a spectacularly choreographed three dimensional digital lighting projection on Hogwarts castle! A beautiful fireworks display followed to signal the much-anticipated arrival of the incredibly immersive land. John Williams was joined for the celebration by cast members of the Harry Potter movies, Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) , Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley) and Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick) as well as Stuart Craig (Production Designer, Harry Potter films and “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter”). Other celebrities included Mindy Kaling (“The Mindy Project”), Thandie Newton (Crash), Vanessa Hudgens (“Grease Live”), Ed O’Neill (“Modern Family”), Jaime Camil (Jane the Virgin), “Emmy Award-winner Greg Nicotero (Executive Producer, “The Walking Dead”); Emmy Award-winner Chris Hardwick (Comedian/host, “The Talking Dead”), Alanna Masterson (“The Walking Dead”), and Golden Globe-winning actor, Billy Bob Thornton, among others. The opening days were a surrealistic foray into the world of Harry Potter and his friends.
“Today is a very exciting and historically significant day for us,” said Larry Kurzweil, President, Universal Studios Hollywood. “This incredible event to celebrate the opening of ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’ marks the pinnacle of years of hard work and the beginning of a new generation of Universal Studios Hollywood. With over 75 percent completely re-imagined, Universal Studios Hollywood is an entirely new theme park destination and we look forward to sharing everything that the Entertainment Capital of L.A. has to offer with visitors from around the world.”
When it opened officially to the public on Thursday the cast members were joined by enthusiastic fans, clad in their favorite Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry house colors and raising their wands, to be among the very first to experience the land on opening day. Unfortunate the author of the Harry Potter series, J.K Rowling was not able to be at the opening, but told Universal Studios, “I am delighted to see ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’ brought to life in a way that is so close to what I imagined when writing the books. I’m thrilled that Harry Potter fans can now experience the wonderful immersive experience created at Universal Studios Hollywood,”
