After Thursday’s hit TV show, The Wiz Live! soundtrack and DVD are currently among the hot items on pre-order sale online. The latest musical production was telecast on NBC on Dec. 3 and featured Queen Latifah, Ne-Yo, David Alan Grier and Shanice Williams, among other performers. Due to the success of the show on television, many people are now looking for where to buy “The Wiz Live!” items online so they can give them as holiday gifts. It appears based on bestseller rankings both are doing quite well so far. The ratings for the TV program are also showing that viewers were definitely interested in seeing how this live musical went.
According to Variety in their Dec. 3 report, the early ratings for the musical show on NBC have seemed to surpass early expectations as there’s been strong numbers for the 18-49 year old adult viewers. Early indications are that the show will surpass numbers that last year’s “Peter Pan Live!” recorded, but that it won’t quite catch or pass the 2013 musical “The Sound of Music Live!” Preliminary numbers are suggesting that the three-hour “The Wiz Live!” musical has an average of 4.4 rating amongst the 18-49 age range for adults. It makes for the highest numbers in that slot since the 2009 “ER” finale, and is the highest rated non-sports event for any network in the past three years.
Both “The Wiz Live!” MP3 album or physical CD are available on pre-order right now, as is the DVD movie. It’s also possible that there will be a digital download of the movie available through sellers such as Amazon or iTunes. Amazon does not currently list one with the DVD nor does the iTunes store at this time. iTunes is also offering pre-order of the entire 18-song soundtrack for $10.99 with an expected release of Dec. 11. The DVD is listed as a No. 1 bestseller on Amazon, and has a release date of Dec. 22 of this year. If it arrives properly with Amazon’s quick shipping it could get the item there just before Christmas Day as a nice gift.
The latest live musical on NBC was a rendition of the popular musical “The Wiz,” featuring Shanice Williams in the role of Dorothy. Singer Ne-Yo played the role of the Tin Man, while Elijah Kelly played the Scarecrow and David Alan Grier starred as The Cowardly Lion. Singer, actress and former talk show host Queen Latifah held the title role of The Wiz, with Stephanie Mills starring as Auntie Em in this adaptation based on the classic “The Wizard of Oz” story and movie. Viewers who watched it certainly seemed to enjoy it, so it won’t be too surprising to see copies of the soundtrack and DVD selling fast as holiday gifts.
