Dec. 29, 2015: “A Walk in the Woods” (Same day as DVD release), Rated R.
In this new comedy adventure, celebrated travel writer, Bill Bryson (played by Robert Redford), instead of retiring to enjoy his loving and beautiful wife (played by Emma Thompson), and large and happy family, challenges himself to hike the Appalachian Trail: 2,200 miles of America’s most unspoiled, spectacular and rugged countryside from Georgia to Maine. The peace and tranquility he hopes to find, though, is anything but, once he agrees to being accompanied by the only person he can find willing to join him on the trek — his long lost and former friend Katz (played by Nick Nolte), a down-on-his-luck serial philanderer who, after a lifetime of relying on his charm and wits to keep one step ahead of the law — sees the trip as a way to sneak out of paying some debts and sneak into one last adventure before it’s too late. The trouble is, the two have a completely different definition of the word, “adventure.” Now they’re about to find out that when you push yourself to the edge, the real fun begins.

“The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution” is the first feature length documentary to explore the Black Panther Party, its significance to the broader American culture, its cultural and political awakening for black people, and the painful lessons wrought when a movement derails. Master documentarian Stanley Nelson goes straight to the source, weaving a treasure trove of rare archival footage with the voices of the people who were there: police, FBI informants, journalists, white supporters and detractors, and Black Panthers who remained loyal to the party and those who left it. Featuring Kathleen Cleaver, Elaine Brown, Emory Douglas, Jamal Joseph, and many others, it’s an essential history and a vibrant chronicle of this pivotal movement that birthed a new revolutionary culture in America.
