The season 10 Knockout Rounds aired on NBC on March 28 on “The Voice” and veteran coach Blake Shelton couldn’t resist seizing another opportunity to tease his Sexiest Man Alive pal Adam Levine. This time, he quickly pointed out Levine’s newly-pink hair reminded him of an ice cream parfait. The comment came after Pharrell used the word “parlance” and Shelton picked up on it and made the parfait reference while gazing past Pharrell at the Maroon 5 front man.
Shelton has historically made a point of razzing his bromance buddy about the many varied hairstyles he has confidently sported during his 10-season tenure on NBC’s Emmy-winning reality singing competition. Shelton previously called Levine “Mr. Clean” when his head was shaved completely bald and he’s also called him “Billy Idol” and other monikers when his hair was dyed platinum blonde. Levine’s pink hair arguably pushes his style boundaries to another level and if any man can make pink hair sexy, it’s definitely Adam Levine.
Apparently Blake Shelton finds the change anything but sexy. Instead, he seems to be reveling in another reason to poke fun at his famous frenemy. He also called Levine Strawberry Shortcake after the famous cartoon character, went all out by comparing him to a My Little Pony figure and posted a hilarious side-by-side photo on Twitter comparing him to Frenchie from “Grease.” It’s hard not to laugh at Shelton’s name-calling shenanigans because his observations bear a certain amount of truth, don’t they?
The only barb Adam Levine issued in response during the show was when he asked Shelton backstage if he ever in his life has done anything different with his physical appearance to which Shelton quipped, “This pays really well.” Levine also took a shot of his own at Shelton via Twitter saying, “Making these decisions is the worst ever. I should probably get liquored up before like @blakeshelton… #VoiceKnockouts.”
Whatever the two are sparring about, we love to watch it all unfold. We’re certainly not going to fault Adam Levine for putting some pink in his life. His gorgeous wife Behati Prinsloo (and mother of his impending firstborn child) represents the color professionally as part of the Victoria’s Secret Pink marketing campaign. Pink also raises awareness for breast cancer and is just generally a bright and fun spring color.
Still, we can’t deny we’d like to see Blake Shelton follow Adam Levine’s suggestion for a style change. Maybe he could trade his plaid shirts for a cool white t-shirt or maybe he could get a brand new tattoo. There’s nothing wrong with embracing change and taking a risk now and then. Shelton’s girlfriend Gwen Stefani is a fashion guru and she could probably give him some great makeover tips. Either way, Adam Levine is living proof that some people can wear just about any color and wear it well.
