He’s handsome, but he dies tomorrow. The volunteers can picture it — his tail will be wagging on his way to the kill room because he’ll think he’s going to play. He’s happy and enthusiastic, his tail wags constantly, and he will sit for treats. He even takes the treats gently. But none of his sweet antics will save his life unless someone contacts the shelter before 9:00 am tomorrow to adopt him or foster him. He is on the list to be killed, and it can be done at any time after 9:00 in the morning.
The first time Handsome was returned to the shelter it was because of landlord issues. All too often, renters adopt dogs without knowing what is in their lease, and unlike some shelters who require the landlord to write a letter saying that dogs are welcome, Hillsborough County will allow anyone with a 20 dollar bill to get a dog. No questions asked. So dogs are often brought back because of landlord issues.
The next time poor Handsome was returned was because he didn’t like riding in the car on the way to his new adopter’s home. Sheesh. Get a crate for it. Handsome is a fabulous dog according to those who have met him. He’s worth getting a crate for the ride home and future vet visits.
Now Handsome has a doggy cold. He has been in the isolation ward at the Tampa shelter, but when they need his kennel tomorrow, he will be killed. If anyone reading this could even just foster him for a week or two, it would save his life. Just a week of having a houseguest would save a life. Please share his story — maybe someone can help!
If you can help Handsome either by adopting, rescuing or fostering him, you must email email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org by 9:00 am tomorrow. The subject of the email should be Do Not Euth Handsome ID#A30942969. Include your name and contact information in the body of the email. You must be willing to pick him up from the shelter by 3:00 pm tomorrow. Please only email the shelter if you are serious.
Handsome is only one-and-a-half years old. In many ways he still has a puppy personality. Please share his story. He only has tonight.
A volunteer who met him wrote:
Handsome came over to me happily when I walked into his kennel. He was friendly, wagging his tail, and rubbing on me for attention. He allowed petting and handling all over. He sat and laid down immediately for treats and took correction well.”
There may be more information on his Facebook thread. He seems to get along with other dogs although it was noted that he is frightened of water. Handsome is ID#A30942969. He is located at Hillsborough County Animal Services, 440 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa, FL 33619. The phone number is 813-744-5660. The shelter is open daily from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
