What’s better than a good sale? How about a great sale with snacks, drinks, awesome music and a lively party atmosphere? That is what fashion savvy Washingtonians are looking forward to Friday, February 19 and Saturday, February 20 at the Gilt City Warehouse Sale. The biannual event returns to Dock5 at Union Market in northeast Washington.
The warehouse sale is the offshoot of Gilt.com, the member only flash sale shopping website. The site specializes in daily shopping deals of limited quantities of designer and highly coveted brand merchandise as well as special one of a kind items or Gilt.com exclusives. Twice a year, the company hosts warehouse sales in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Washington. For many Washingtonians, this is DC’s version of a sample sale.
This season the sale includes women’s clothing from designers such as ISSA, Temperley London, Maje, Sandro, Derek Lam, Helmut Lang, Lanvin, Prada and Valentino. For men, the hot designers include Tom Ford, Paul Smith, John Varvatos and GANT. Typically the sale also includes some special pop up stores within the sale or other special enticements. At a previous sale it was the John Varvatos pop-up store. This time around the focus will be on spring dresses for every occasion as well as a pop-up from local jewelry artist, Sophie Blake.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at Gilt City. Here are the 5 tips for a successful and enjoyable Warehouse experience:
1. Arrive early
The format of the sale consists of 4 2-hour sessions, including media preview session Friday night followed by a later Friday night session as well as 2 more sessions on Saturday. Smart attendees tend to arrive early as much as an hour for their time-slot in order to be the first to grab the best deals.
2. Leave your big bag and coat at home.
Although it’s winter, by leaving these things in the car or at home, you’ll skip the coat check line and can head directly to the sale through the Fast Pass entrance. Steals like this flirty cocktail dress will go fast.
3. Bring plenty of patence.
Remember this is a warehouse sale and while the staff does a great job of sizing merchandise correctly, you’ll have to wade through stacks and stacks of clothing, shoes and accessories. With all the merchandise, that elusive designer bargain might be just out of your grasp if you hurry through the racks.
4. Avoid the dressing room
Just like coat check, there might be a wait. Consider wearing clothes that you can try your items on over. Plus you’ll save time being near the racks if you need an additional size. You might miss something like a Monique Lhullier ballgown.
5. Treat the event like a fun day or evening out.
With entry prices ranging from $5 – $25, no where else in Washington can you enjoying cocktails and snacks at such reasonable prices. Not only to you get to shop but you can enjoy a couple of drinks with friends.
