Most video game enthusiasts love to play a game. They love to “gear up” and equip their heroes. They love to battle, they certainly love to win, and for online gamers, they love to meet other gamers with similar loves to theirs. And gamers also love to *create*. Creating in video games is similar to the newest old past time of coloring. Coloring is therapeutic, as well as creative. Coloring completes something, even if it is just one part of a whole picture. Coloring challenges you to go outside the lines. Or, in the case of designing content in The Sims, outside the box!
As a designer in The Sims 4, DeannaCarver could never say, “I color inside the lines,” because the amount of creativity she exhibits in her designs speaks volumes about being distinctive and unique. However, like with other designers who design for The Sims, she searches for inspirational works, and uses them to make a foundation. And that is literally a foundation because most of her designs are buildings. Then she applies her own individual touches and tastes into her own projects.
Such could be said about her newest project, “7 micro home village.” This lot is perfect for, say, a group of Senior Citizen-Sims looking to save money on their mortgage! In fact, the news reports that many Seniors are seeking joint ventures like these in real life!
The “roomie” scenario is attractive because, with the divorce rate climbing for the Boomers, it saves on costs, the social aspect is pleasing to retirees and in case of an emergency, there are others who can help in the situation. It’s not certain that DeannaCarver designed this lot with that purpose, but the “7 micro home village” was designed with this trend in mind!
DeannaCarver began The Sims chapter of her life by following her mom, who played The Sims 2. Since then, she has also introduced her husband to the game, as well as her 2 children! To get inspiration for her building designs, she gets floorplans from Yahoo and Google. She begins with an idea of what she wants to build, just not how. Also, there are many builders offering tips and inspiration who film their work on YouTube . SimSupply and Deligracy are two such builders.
DeannaCarver’s favorite designs are “Newcrest Nighclub”, the “Cute 6X6 Home”, the “Twin Oracle Point” home, and also her “Cute family Home”. And of course, the “7 micro home village” is a new favored lot. She says that she does not use custom content, and has all of the expansion and stuff packs available from Electronic Arts. DeannaCarver, is staying away from custom content sites due to the fact that they often can affect game play, which is a growing concern among The Sims’ players. But she says it is mostly because there is so much more content brought out that it isn’t really necessary to use custom content (“CC”).
Along with designing, she also loves to play some of The Sims’ game Legacy Challenges. That is where you follow a story line with the Sims you create, or, sometimes you let the game create them. She says, “The asylum challenge is awesome!! I love it and it is so fun to watch The Sims get all mad at each other and not being able to control any of them but your own Sim.”
For other Simmers who would like to have some excellent advice from DeannaCarver, about building, creating, or just Simming, she says “I love building. Don’t ever doubt yourself when it comes to you being creative. Your builds are awesome and great because they came from you and that makes them special. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Remember, practice makes perfect! If you’re a first time builder, the best advice I can give is to go on YouTube and watch real time builds. There are tips and secrets you can learn by watching how others are doing it. No matter how long you have been building, you can always learn something a little extra by watching build videos.”
Great advice, Deanna!
